- Personal Message
- Hello, My name is Max and I teach the Saxophone and Clarinet. If you want to learn either instrument with a relaxed and patient teacher don't hesitate to contact me.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach the Saxophone, Clarinet and musical theory. I have extensive knowledge of teaching jazz, classical, latin and pop music. I can cater for students who are eager to take music theory exams. If required I will also include piano tuition.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a BMUS(Hons) Music performance degree from Trinity College of Music in Greenwich. I have a B in Music A level and an A in GCSE. I also obtained a distinction for my Grade 5 Theory exam.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- At the moment i have eight pupils in and around London whom i teach weekly.
I have four years experience of one to one teaching at all levels.
I have taught for the Arts Council in the East Midlands. We visited several schools and taught children about the history of jazz and basic instrumental technique.
I have led workshops and classes at Cheethams School of Music and Lewisham Sixth form College.
I was chosen to teach on the Trinity College of Music Jazz Summer School where i taught a huge range of ages and abilities.
I have worked with Jason Rowland who runs the Raise the Roof program in Schools and works for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. We taught a group of 100 school children.
As a performer I have played at Ronnie Scotts, The Hilton Hotel New York, The Royal hospital Chelsea, The Queen elizabeth Hall and St Martin in the Fields
I have worked for Lewisham music service on a Lewisham Live project. On this project we taught 40 children a piece of music by ear. - How much do you charge?
- I offer a free first lesson, after which each lesson is £25 per hour. This is negotiable depending on the pupil. If i have to travel to a pupils house £5 will be added to the fee for the lesson. I will happily teach more than one person at once and there will be a discount included.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at my own home but I will happily travel to pupils' houses. I live in the Isle of Dogs, near Canary Wharf. I teach pupils in Lewisham and East Ham. I am willing to travel anywhere near an underground station.
- When are you available?
- I am available every day of the week including weekends. I am available to teach between 9-6. I usually stay around London during the summer holidays and very close to Christmas.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach pupils of all ages. I have experience teaching students which are post grade 8 standard. Several of my students started from never playing the saxophone. Within a few months I have raised them to a grade 2 standard. Their knowledge of playing piano and music theory has greatly increased too.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I prepare my students for all associated board exams. Currently i have two students preparing for grade 1. I also have a student who I am preparing for various performances in London. I try to encourage my students to perform as often as possible.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes I do
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- I belong to Trinity College of Music and Hot House music in Derbyshire.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I trained at Trinity college of Music in Greenwich. I train with Simon Purcell and Mark Lockheart. I also trained at the Royal Academy of Music on their junior jazz programme.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- Two of my current students are studying for the Grade 1 exam. They began two months ago and are improving at great speed. I have another student who is learning how to play the music of Stevie Wonder with a view to play in her local church. I have just started teaching two 25 year olds who are eager to get back into music.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I am incredibly passionate about teaching music and would like to pass that passion on to you. If you want to have fun learning to Saxophone or Clarinet don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks
