- It's never too late.....!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I do teach other instruments, but Clarinet is my principal subject and having relocated am keen to re establish my Clarinet numbers primarily. Along with my husband, who is a Boosey & Hawkes trained woodwind technician, we restore, refurbish & repair clarinets & always have renowned named instruments for students to rent/purchase at very good rates.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a music degree, BA(Hons) and have taught Clarinet for 40yrs with excellent results, with ABRSM and occasionally other exam boards. Recently, I took the ABRSM Teaching Diploma, as Continuing Professional Development; to ensure I'm bang up to date; to be able enter my own pupils confidently & supportively for this 'newish' qualification. I recently enjoyed the ABRSM Annual Conference...inspiring!
I do have a number of other qualifications, best seen on my web site. It is my 'other' experience/career, which has led to my teaching so many adults, for whatever reason they choose music as a way forward. - What kind of experience do you have?
- As above, 40 years of working privately, also, in schools (Herts/Cambs); for County Music as a peripatetic (Herts/Cambs; for businesses such as Music for Schools Foundation (Lincs). I have always enjoyed putting on Pupils' Concerts both at home and various venues.
I have helped with the Anglo German Youth Music week both in Germany & England. I played for a while with the Newark & Sherwood Wind Band recently & various Chamber Groups, & 'in the pits' of various Operatic Society orchestras.
I am also a qualified Counsellor. A number of my adult students are with me, having taken up an instrument as one of their ways of moving forward after a loss, rather than a 'talking therapy', feeling it is, however, a confidential & understanding environment. - How much do you charge?
- £28/hr. I am seeking to increase my practice at my home teaching Studio at Annesley Woodhouse where I am happy to teach individually (or shared lessons, & small groups at a discounted rates). All lessons include music theory, duetting and accompaniment on the piano (by myself.)
- Where do you teach?
- Teaching at my Studio at Annesley Woodhouse is accessible to students from North Nottingham area, Bulwell, Cinderhill, Bestwood, Watnall, Nuthall, Bestwood, Hucknall, Linby, Papplewick, Blidworth, Ravenshead, Rainworth, Kimberley, Awsworth, Ilkeston, Eastwood, Underwood, Bagthorpe, Selston. Also Kirkby in Ashfield, Sutton in Ashfield, Mansfield, Farnsfield, Southall. We are close to the Derbyshire border, near Somercotes, Alfreton, Ripley, Jacksdale, Jubilee, Heanor, Codnor.
- When are you available?
- I have vacancies on Tuesdays, all day, Wednesdays, all day, Thursday mornings, alternate Friday afternoons & evenings
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages. Clarinet from age about 8/9 if physically & dentally ready, through to my oldest student at the moment of 73yrs. I am happy to take any ability from complete beginner through the Grades 1-8 and on to Diploma level. I am also happy to teach those who do not wish to take exams.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes, and will be updating it again later this year.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Clarinet & Saxophone Society, Member.
European Piano Teacher's Association, Member.
British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy, Member. - Where and with whom did you train?
- Boston High School with Nigel Keates, later Antony Garten.
Huddersfield University with Neil Garland, later Judith Clare. - Tell me about some of your current students.
- I have enjoyed the privilege of very many pupils over the years. I can think of those who have gone on to study at University elsewhere; those studying at Lincoln & Nottingham Universities now; I have young pupils just starting out...one on a pink clarinet; students with whom I'm sharing the therapeutic benefits of music, physically & psychologically, of various ages & abilities, one of 8, one of 65, one of 70.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- It's definitely 'Never Too Late' ! It should always be fun, & see my website for more.
