- Wanting to do something is the quickest way to learn and make progress. It doesn't matter how old you are or how successful you have been in the past, if you have the desire to learn then that is all you really need. I cater my teaching to your individual needs and requirements, and pride myself on creating a learning environment that is both fun and rewarding. Having taught both privately and in a classroom I understand the benefits of private, one-to-one, teaching and can help you to progress at a rate that is comfortable to you.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I primarily teach practical music (singing, violin, piano, viola and theory). I also have a lot of experience teaching academic subjects - mainly KS1 and KS2, though I am happy to go beyond this if required.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I studied music at the University of Surrey where I specialised in violin and singing. I went on to do a PGCE at Oxford Brookes with a specialism in French.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I've been part of music at the highest quality since the age of 7 when I was a chorister in New College Choir, Oxford (I was head chorister in my final year). I held an instrumental scholarship at my secondary school, and during my time at Unversity was both principal violin and viola of their various orchestras. I continue to peform, and have appeared as a soloist both in the UK and Europe with choirs and orchestras. I recently recorded music for the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Ibsen's 'A doll's house'.
Since 2001 I have been part of a schools' project which teaches children a bit about music and the instruments we play. We pride ourselves on teaching through interaction with the children and allowing them to take part at every stage. For several years I worked as a music teacher of Surrey County Arts, and since moving back to Oxford I have directed and coached primary school orchestras and choirs. I have also worked as a piano accompanist for many school drama productions. I have taught privately and in a classroom both practical and academic music.
Even though my teaching experience has been predominantly with children, I enjoy to teach people of all ages. - How much do you charge?
- For French, English, Maths and Science I charge £20/hour. For instrumental lessons I charge £30/hour. Travel costs are not included in these prices. I offer a half price first lesson, but will still charge the full travel fare. Fees negotiable.
- Where do you teach?
- Most of my teaching is in Oxford, though I am happy to travel throughout Oxfordshire. Nearby towns include Swindon, Witney, Stonesfield, Coombe.
- When are you available?
- I teach most evenings and weekends, but may be available during the day depending on my schedule. Please inquire for further details.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages. For instrumental lessons I am happy to teach complete beginners up to Grade 5 standard. For the academic subjects I am happy to teach complete beginners up until KS2. I am happy tutoring beyond this level if required.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have a fully Up-to-date CRB Disclosure Certificate
