- I am a London based freelance horn player/brass teacher. I have recently completed my Masters and am willing to take on pupils of all ages and abilities.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- My specialist instrument is the French horn, but I can teach all any brass instruments and also Music Theory. I am willing to take on any ability, ranging from beginners to Grade 8+, with the exception of tuba and trombone, which I can happily take from beginner to around Grade 5 standard.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have obtained a BMus(hons) from the Royal Northern College of Music and an MMus from the Guildhall School of Music.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- My experience is varied: I have had a number of private pupils over the last 6 years or so whom I have helped prepare for ABRSM exams. I have done cover work for peripatetic teachers in secondary schools. I have also given workshops and master classes secondary schools and have received primary school workshop training from the Education Group. Recently, I have been teaching the bugle to members of Barnet Boys Brigade
As a player, I am experienced in solo, chamber and orchestral performance and regularly play with the UK's top professional orchestras. Last year I was principal horn with the European Union Youth Orchestra and was trialled for positions in the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia. - How much do you charge?
- My fees are £30 for an hour or £17.50 for 30 minutes. I am happy to give a consultation lesson at half this price. There will be no extra cost for travel if the lesson takes place with London Zones 1-3. There may be a small travel fee for areas outside these areas, but this is negotiable.
- Where do you teach?
- I am based in Walthamstow and am within easy reach of Leyton, Stratford, Chingford, Enfield and Clapton. Living on the Victoria Line, areas such as Tottenham, Finsbury Park, Highbury, Islington, Vauxhall, Pimlico and Brixton and also very accessible. That said, I am happy to teach in any area of London. For the time being I am unable to teach in my house so can only teach in students' homes.
- When are you available?
- My schedule is very varied, therefore I don't have any specific times set aside for teaching - most of the time I am able to work around the time table of the student.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I can teach any age group from 6 years to adult. I teach French horn and tenor horn from beginner to Grade 8+ and any other brass instrument up to Grade 5.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I am able to prepare students for ABRSM exams, but this is not compulsory. Some students respond well to the challenge of an exam, whereas others find it stressful and detrimental to their progress. It is entirely the student's choice. The most important objective of instrumental lessons is to enjoy making music.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Not at my current address but I have had several in the past for teaching and care work. I would get one if required.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- At the Royal Northern College of Music with Lizzie Davis and Frank Lloyd, and then at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Hugh Seenan, Jeff Bryant and Richard Bissill.
