- Personal Message
- Confidence is everything in learning - and one-to-one tuition is a time to develop both confidence and self-belief.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I primarily teach English Key Stage 3 and GCSE, though I also teach Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 French. As a published novelist, I teach Creative Writing either to individuals, or by arrangement to groups of up to four.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature, a PGCE in English and Drama and an MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I've been a teacher of English and Drama for twenty-two years, both in a variety of schools and as a one-to-one tutor. I've also taught Key Stage 3 French. As well as being a teacher, I'm a novelist (my first two novels have been published by Little, Brown - I'm currently working on a third book for the same publisher).
- How much do you charge?
- GCSE English £25 per hour
Creative Writing £30 per hour
Key Stage 3 English £20 per hour
Key Stage 2 French £20
Key Stage 3 French £20
Proofreading by arrangement
Travel charges by arrangement, dependent upon distance - Where do you teach?
- I am happy to teach in my own home or at students' homes, whichever suits you better. I live near Chichester in West Sussex near the border with Hampshire. I am happy to travel up to 10 miles - Emsworth, Havant, Portsmouth, Waterlooville, Arundel, Bognor Regis etc.
- When are you available?
- I am available for tuition Monday to Friday, daytime or evening. I can be flexible with times - if, for example you prefer after-school during term time, this could be switched to a daytime appointment if you need to continue tuition during school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach GCSE English, Key Stage 3 English or French, Key Stage 2 French. I also teach Creative Writing, primarily to adults, though I'm happy to teach any age - from seven to ninety-seven (or older ...)!
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have an enhanced CRB certificate.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- National Association of Writers in Education, the Society of Authors, The Historial Writers' Association, the National Union of Teachers.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Everyone can benefit from one-to-one tuition - it's a time to develop self-confidence and self-belief. Classrooms are not always the easiest places to feel confident, but I'm very easy-going, patient and flexible, and will work with you to develop both your confidence and skills.
