- Let's Drum!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- Drums (full drum-kit).
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- A student of Kenny Clark and Dante Agostini in Paris, I have been the founder and manager of the largest private music school in France - 1982-1992. I have been teaching drums as well as training aspiring drum teachers for 20+ years. I am the author of 2 drum books (in French language) which have sold several thousand: 'La Methode' and 'B.A. BA Batterie’ and of an extensive course about rhythm: 'Opening Number 1'. Since 2001 I teach drums in my studio based in south East London.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- As a musician: I am a professional drummer who has been performing for 35 years internationally in all imaginable contexts: tours with household names, TV shows, radio shows, clubs, circus, pro marching band, functions, music festivals, jazz concerts... I established the 1st ever world record of the longest drum solo (Guinness Book 1986) - 24hours 40min on the sea on a catamaran named 'Jaz'. I am fluent in most styles of music: Rock, Funk, R & B, Disco, Soul, Jazz etc. I currently manage and perform with a dance covers band, a jazz quartet and an original alternative project. As a teacher: 20+ years of teaching experience. Aside from my private practice, I have also taught drums to year 7 and 8 students at Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton twice a week for 2 years. I also teach special needs children - Dyslexia and autism.
- How much do you charge?
- One-off lessons are charged at £40/hour for adults and £30/hour under 18 years old. Packages of 4, 8 or 12 lessons are cost effective (from £25 per hour).
- Where do you teach?
- I teach in my drum studio located near Forest Hill Train Station in SE23. (15mins from London Bridge, 20min from Waterloo). Plenty of buses are stopping at my door making it easy access for students living in Sydenham, Lewisham, Brokley, Bromley, Croydon, Camberwell, Greenwich, Earn Hill, Beckenham, Penge, Earn Hill, Tulse Hill, Peckham, Brockley, Dulwich. I am open to teach in other local schools or community projects who want a professional drum tutor.
- When are you available?
- Monday to Saturday included.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- From 6 to no limit.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I prepare students for the grades (1-8) of Trinity Guildhall and Rock School.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- I am a long time member of the UK Musician Union providing me with updated teacher training and liability insurance as a teacher.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- Kenny Clark and Dante Agostini in Paris.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- My students are great! The youngest is 6 and will pass his grade 1 at Trinity Guildhall in 2 weeks. His dad passed his grade 2 with distinction 9 months ago. I have several students in the UK who are now pros. Currently, my oldest student is 71 and going strong. Most of my adult students range 18-35 including 3 females. Some of them play in bands. Many students do not wish to do the grades but most plan to reach a level where they can play in a band. Some want to become pros, some just do it for fun in their garage... in any case it is always FUN!
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Let's Drum!
