Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the Organ, the instrument Mozart hailed as 'King of the Instruments' - I aim to persuade you all accordingly!

Tell me about your qualifications.
Working toward as Bachelor of Music Honours degree at the moment at the Royal College of Music, London. Organ Scholar of Southwark Cathedral, London.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have had organ pupils for about 2 years. I was the Director of Music at John Keble Church, Mill Hill, London, from 2008 to 2010, where I conducted the mixed choir and played the Willis III organ. I'm now Organ Scholar of Southwark Cathedral, working with the cathedral's four choirs and the sumptuous 4-manual Lewis organ. These have given me and will continue to give me ample opportunity to develop the way I train other people in music.

How much do you charge?
£50 per hour.

Where do you teach?
I can teach at Southwark Cathedral, or in a suitable location for the pupil in question.

When are you available?
Please negogiate this with me on email: jonathan.hope@southwark.anglican.org

Which ages and levels do you teach?
Organ: I teach ages 10 and up, preferably with at least Grade 5 piano or some decent level of keyboard playing ability.

Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM exams, RCO exams and am always willing to prepare students for anything they need.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have been CRB checked on a number of occasions, the last being when I was appointed to Southwark Cathedral.

Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to:
Royal College of Organists (RCO)
Surrey Organists' Association (SOA)
North Hampshire Organists' Association (NHOA)
Organ Scholar of Southwark Cathedral.

Student at the Royal College of Music until July 2011.

Where and with whom did you train?
I learnt the organ with Stephen Lacey at Farnham Parish Church, John Belcher at Godalming Parish Church, and now with Margaret Phillips and Sophie-Veronique Cauchefer-Choplin at the RCM.

Tell me about some of your current students.
One is a chorister at Southwark Cathedral, where I work, a beginner and doing very well. Another of my pupils is working towards his ABRSM Grade 6 Organ exam, to be taken in the autumn term.
