Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Art and Design for all ages and levels up to Postgraduate level. (I particularly specialise in drawing, illustration and sequential imagery.) I am able to teach a range of Art & Design skills including Interview Coaching and Portfolio Advice for Further and Higher Education. Each lesson is tailored to the individual.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I trained at The Royal College of Art, London in MA Communication Art & Design. I have a First Class BA (hons) degree in Graphic Design (Illustration) and a National Diploma in Fine Art. I have also studied Creative Writing at The Imperial College in London and The Arvon Foundation.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a private art & design tutor with many regular students since 2005 and have taught classes and courses for clients including Islington Arts Factory, The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Thames Valley Summer Schools, The Royal Veterinary College, Wandsworth Arts Festival, Wandsworth Council, Eastside Educational Trust, Creative Partnerships, Bournemouth Arts Institute, Exeter Phoenix and The University of Westminster. I also have experience teaching art in Primary and Secondary Schools. References can be provided on request.
How much do you charge?
I charge £30 per hour and payments for block bookings can be spread into weekly or monthly payments by BACS, cash or cheque. This fee includes lesson planning time which is tailored to each student. If you are coming to me, this fee also includes the use of basic professional materials from my studio, a work schedule, lesson plan and homework if appropriate. Even if I teach more than one student at a time, each student is treated as an individual, not as a class, so the lessons and optional homework reflect this.

I am always happy to visit my students at home if need be, so please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

It is also possible to book me for whole days (especially if we were to go on an educational trip drawing at the zoo or a museum for example). There is a special rate for this.

For blocks of lessons (for example a whole term) you will receive a lesson plan, an invoice and the option to pay for the term in full or to break the cost into weekly or monthly payments. I can take payment by cash, cheque, BACs or Paypal (small additional fee if paying by credit card) and you will receive a reciept and confirmation of your booking.

If you are a school/college and would like to hire me to teach a class or course - please get in touch as there is a different rate for this.
Where do you teach?
I usually teach from my home and studio but am also happy to visit my students at home. Most students prefer to visit me so that we have all equipment and resources we need to hand. I am located in Poole, Dorset (BH15) . Free parking is available outside my property and I am within ten minutes walking distance of major bus routes including M1 & M2. The nearest train station is Poole which is a 15 minute walk away.

I can also visit you, but this may incur additional fees for travel and time so please get in touch to discuss your location.
When are you available?
I teach Monday - Friday 10am - 7pm and Saturday mornings 10am - 1pm

Times outside of this can be arranged by special request.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages, abilities and levels up to postgraduate. You do not need to be pursuing an academic qualification to have lessons. The majority of my current students have lessons for college or university entrance, portfolio build up, leisure or as extra lessons on top of their school/college work. Each lesson is tailored to your requirements.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes, and I can e-mail you a copy of it before you meet me.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can now offer tuition via Skype. This means that I can see you and you can see me, and you can show me your work via web cam or screen share. Obviously the quality of lesson is not as straightforward as teaching in person, but some of my students have chosen this option for interview coaching or if my input on technique and demonstration is to be minimal and/or they live very far away. Some of my students have also used this option to stay in touch with me and continue lessons whilst they are away on holiday or at boarding school.

This works very well for interview coaching and consultation. Depending on the requirements of your on-line lessons, the hourly fee is normally reduced.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of The Royal College of Art's alumni, a member of Norwich University College of the Arts's alumni, a tutor at Islington Arts Factory, Thames Valley Summer Schools, Eastside Educational Trust & Creative Partnerships. I am also a lecturer for Further and Higher Education at Arts University College at Bournemouth.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at The Royal College of Art. Tutors included: Debbie Cook, Andrzej Klimowski, Anne Howeson and Quentin Blake. http://www.rca.ac.uk/ I also studied writing at The Imperial College with Kathryn Merris and Eva Salzman, and at The Arvon Foundation with Caroline Lawrence and Karen Hayes.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I am currently working with a diverse mix of students of all abilities, ages and backgrounds.
Do you have a personal message for students?
My aim as your tutor is to discover what you want to achieve and see how we can work together to reach your goals. I am a naturally friendly tutor, with lots of energy and enthusiasm for the creative subjects I teach. I like to get to know my students and devise a lesson plan that will inspire and engage them.

There is also the option for me to arrange trips. Recent educational trips I have taken my students on include galleries, zoos, museums, bookshops and inspiring landscapes. As a practicing artist myself, I am actively involved in the industry and can give you professional advice and direction as well as teaching your usual lessons.

For my younger students, I find that my experience in leading courses and events and writing and illustrating for children's books for this age group makes me a popular tutor. I have oodles of imagination and can keep them occupied for hours with my varied lesson plans for small attention spans!

I look forward to working with you.
