Which subject(s) do you teach?
Flute, piano, keyboard, songwriting, composition, music theory

Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an MA in Music from the University of York and a Graduate Diploma in Music from Huddersfield Polytechnic. At both institutions I specialised in flute with piano as a second study.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught privately for many years. Latterly I was Director of Music at an independent school outside York, where I was responsible for all the music activities across the school, including instrumental lessons. I have played flute and piano in many different ensembles over the years.

How much do you charge?
My hourly rate for lessons at my home is £30. I can come and teach in students' homes, but charge an extra, agreed fee for this. I teach keyboards in groups for a rate of £10/half hour.

Where do you teach?
I teach at home but am willing to travel to students' homes. I live in North Yorkshire and will consider travelling to nearby towns (Harrogate, Leeds etc) to teach.

When are you available?
I teach Monday-Friday and Saturday mornings during school term time. I teach during school holidays by arrangement with students.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, all levels.

Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM examinations (classical and jazz). ABRSM Diploma for flute.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes

Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the ISM

Where and with whom did you train?
I trained with John Barrow between 1985 and 2001 at Hudderfield Polytechnic and the University of York. John Barrow studied with Geoffrey Gilbert - one of the foremost flute players of the 20th century - at the Royal College of Music and has played in most British orchestras.
