- French is to be enjoyed! I delight in bringing it alive for you, whatever level you're at. My aim is to take you just where you are but get you to where you want to be.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach GCSE and A-level French and GCSE Portuguese. I also offer short 4-session adult courses for holiday-makers in French or Portuguese for £60 per course.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- Last summer I achieved A* at A2 level as I was keen to understand the most up-to-date exams and mark schemes to help students achieve the highest possible grades. I had already achieved an A-grade in Higher French (Scottish equivalent of A-level)when I was at school. I have a certificate in Commercial French from Chester Secretarial College. I then qualified in an intensive course in Paris at Alliance Francaise.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I worked for 2 years in Paris as a bi-lingual secretary and a simultaneous translator at a conference centre. I have 20 years experience of living and working with speakers of other languages including living in Brazil for 3 years and France for 3 years speaking French or Portuguese respectively all the time. I have prepared students for GCSE and A-level French and GCSE Portuguese.
- How much do you charge?
- I normally charge £12 per hour for up to 18yr olds but am very happy to teach 2 or 3 students in a group as I find they stimulate each other. For 2 students I charge £10 each, for 3 students £8 each. For Adults I charge £15 an hour.
I offer an introductory trial lesson for half price. This offer, which a parent or friend is welcome to attend, is meant as a mutual test of whether we can work well together. - Where do you teach?
- I prefer to teach at my home which on the No 13, 34, 27, 86 and 4 bus route but if it is not possible for the student to travel, I would consider teaching at the student's home.
I would normally prefer the student to come to me as I feel this helps concentration but would be willing to travel depending on distance. - When are you available?
- I am available every school day from 4pm until 6pm and several weekday evenings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach any secondary school student for GCSE and A-level French and GCSE Portuguese. I will tailor lessons to the specification of your chosen exam board. Holiday French and Portuguese for any age.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes, because of also working as a Sixth Form Clerk and in voluntary Christian youthwork.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I first of all believe in enjoying any sessions we have. I aim to take you just where you are but get you to where you want to be with teaching tailored to your individual needs.
Don't fall into tourist traps by not understanding, take a few sessions before a holiday to appreciate the culture and people and have more fun.
