- Personal Message
- My name is Daniel Hill, and I am a teacher. I have recently relocated to London from the North East of England where I enjoyed working as a teacher in a comprehensive secondary school and sixth form.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- As a classroom teacher I taught GCSE science and A-Level Physics. Therefore, as a tutor, I have a working knowledge, not just of the content needed for the exams, but how to pass the exams. Also, thanks to my physics background, I enjoy teaching mathematics, not just as ‘sums’, but as a way of solving the puzzles science throws at us.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- Having graduated with a degree in Physics and Philosophy BSc (Class One) I began my training as a teacher. I have now worked as a classroom teacher for three years and have achieved Qualified Teacher Status as recognised by The General Teaching Council of England.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- Alongside teaching for three years in a large comprehensive secondary school and sixth form and I have tutored many pupils, both for GCSE and A-Level. The pupils I have tutored have never failed to achieve the highest grade possible for that exam.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £35 for an hour's tuition. If public transport is required to reach you, an extra £5 per session will be added to cover costs and time.
For pairs, or small groups, add £10 per extra student. - Where do you teach?
- I live in Battersea, and so the surrounding areas: Clapham, Lambeth, Balham, Earlsfield, Summerstown, Vauxhall, Roehampton, etc would all be convenient. Lucky, however, I am very well connected by rail and tube so can travel easily throughout London.
- When are you available?
- Generally, I can work whenever it is convenient for you.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I am qualified to teach right through from KS2-KS5 (8-19 years old) and am experienced in preparing students for KS3 SATS, GCSE exams, and A-Level exams.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes, I have an up-to-date enhanced CRB certificate.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- For online tutoring I have both a webcam and a microphone, while being able to share a 'virtual whiteboard' with the student. Ideally the student will also have a webcam and microphone to enable and encourage a positive learning dialogue as with face-to-face tutoring.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I achieved Qualified Teacher Status in 2009 with the Redcar & Cleveland Teacher Training Partnership.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I was very sorry that in my move to London I left behind some fantastic students. The classes that I left behind all achieved some fantastic grades and all of those whom I was tutoring achieved the highest grade possible in their exams. It really made my summer.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I genuinely enjoy helping people to understand things. I'd be lying if I said that the lessons will be the most fun you've ever had, but I bet they'll be more fun than you're expecting. I promise that you'll learn. I promise that you'll do better in your exams. And if I break that promise, you can write whatever you like on my forehead before I walk home.
