- Personal Message
- My personal message for all students is that I believe my skills and experience can make some difference to your final grades,
but I hope that my hard work is reciprocated by hard work on your part. - Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach Business Studies, dealing with all the specialisms of Accounts, Human Resources, Marketing, Operations Management, as well as the wider economic environment.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I possess an M.Sc. in Business Economics, which I completed at Sunderland University in 1998. I also have a PGCE Teacher training qualification.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have experience of teaching 16, 17 and 18 year old students as well as adult students. In the past few years, I have also taught a large range of International students, notably, Chinese, Middle Eastern and Cypriot students.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £20 per hour and, any reasonable travel expenses, should that be necessary.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at students' homes and would also consider any mutually agreed venues.
- When are you available?
- I am currently available through the day on Wednesdays and Thursdays but also weekday evenings and Saturdays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I worked for 21 years at Newcastle College and, since 1993, taught "A" level and GCSE Business Studies. I also taught the Higher Education Foundation Certificate targeted at mature students who wished to go to University. I also taught "A" level and GCSE Economics.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have a valid CRB, updated in 2008.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- This is something where I would be able to communicate material via e-mail, as well as some advice. If there is an electronic facility, such as blackboard that the tutee has, I would endeavour to be of help.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I cut my teeth in teaching at Newcastle College - I completed the City and Guilds 730 Certificate there in 1986 and followed up by doing the full PGCE in Further Education in 1992.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I have teaching on B/TEC Courses of late, doing the Business Unit for Engineering students, as well as teaching a B/TEC Module for some A2 Business students.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- My personal message is that if you have the motivation to do well in your subject, that is half of the battle. The other half involves hard work, completing homework and being prepared and focussed for examinations.
