- Yes, my latest CRB check was conducted in the Summer of 2011 and I am happy to show my certification to pupils and parents alike.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I prefer to provide face to face tuition where possible. However, with such a shortage of chemistry tutors around the country and abroad, I am delighted to help pupils who live outside of my commutable area, or where their budget is more restricted than the relatively heavy prices indicated for commuting around London and its surburbs, either via car or public transport.
At present, I have limited availability for tutoring in my own home, however I expect this situation to change in 2013.
I conduct my tutorials online using Skype and so you will need a computer with skype installed. You will also need a quiet room, a pair of headphones (unless you want speakers on), some notepaper and a pen/pencil, and possibly a printer - plus the materials I have sent you. I send materials either online via email, via download from the links I provide students with, or via post. With regards to the latter, I use whatever means makes most sense in the available timeframe. I can offer more flexible times for online tutoring, but only on a pre-payable basis, via internet bank transfer (no cheques or cash). - Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Not at present because I currently tutor privately full time. Due to the amount of support tutees in chemistry currently need, and the laboratory training school I run, I prefer to remain highly focussed in my specialist areas. I do have good contact with a number of other full and part-time
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I trained at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- Most of the students that I tutor face to face are located within the M25/M4/M3 corridors of West London/Surrey . I currently am tutoring a fairly medium-large number of GCSE, AS and A2 level students from both state and private schools, whom are either sitting (or re-sitting due to low grades previously attained in particular units), across all three of the major examination boards: EdExcel, AQA and OCR A/B.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- The secret to passing your A-level chemistry examinations, with your desired grades (usually A/B), lies in understanding where you lose marks and why. The secret to passing your GCSE/IGCSE/11+ chemistry examinations lies in developing your understanding of basic scientific principles, practice of recall and written communication.
