Personal Message
I offer and provide "one to one" empathetic tuition, which is designed to best cater for your unique academic and cognitive capabilities. I try to make difficult concepts much easier to understand, studying enjoyable and often fun, so that you can confidently look forward to your exams. It is your chance to show your true worth, by virtue of attaining your full potential. I am a qualified and very experienced teacher, with CRB, who provides the skills of good sound teaching and the encouragement to study, that some education establishments are alleged not to be able to provide.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
All Science and Science related subjects. I also offer Geography, Law (AQA, OCR and WJEC), Psychology and Sociology.
Tell me about your qualifications.
B.Sc (Hons) Science Nottingham; Retired 10250 Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner, GTCE, QTS, NEBOSH National Cert in OHS. Various specialist qualifications relating to management studies.
What kind of experience do you have?
A former Local Education Authority Advisor and Management Consultant. Over 37 years of Teaching (Part and Full time) in the Independent / International Schools, Maintained sectors and, providing Management advice to Industry, LEAs, IOSH. HSE, and School/Colleges per se. My Teaching experience is extremely wide (culturally and geographically) and includes work with the disabled, main stream maintained Schools and teaching Sixth form in the Maintained and International Grammar Schools. Students with dyslexia are very welcome. One such student came in the previous Academic year, on an estimated "U" for Geography and, after continuing to attend for 10 months, attained a grade "C" in the June "A2" Examination.
How much do you charge?
I normally only teach one student at a time, excepting twins. However a situation has arisen in which 2 students, who are close friends have asked me, with Parental support, to jointly teach them AS Chemistry.
All Personal Tuition sessions are of 75 mins duration.. not 60 mins!
KS3/4;GCSE : £20-00 per 75 min session;
AS/A2 : £25-00 per 75 min session.
Where do you teach?
Kenilworth, Warwickshire. CV82PQ.
I do not travel. All tuition sessions take place in my comfortable executive home. It is well equiped with appropriate teaching resources and has a downstairs cloakroom for student and Parent use.
When are you available?
Subject to Consultancy committments:
Monday to Friday 08-00 to 19-30 hrs; Saturday 08.00 to 19-30 hrs. Sundays and Bank Holidays by appointment.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Normally 13 to 19 years excepting mature students wishing to updates their skills.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR including Nuffield and OCR at GCSE and "AS/A2" - Levels.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes: for work as a Supply Teacher. I also have references from students and their parents/Guardians.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
GTCE, ATL. Formerly IOSH as a CMIOSH and Chair of the IOSH Education Specialist Group.
Where and with whom did you train?
University of Nottingham, University of Bangor, University of Aston, Coventry Technical College, and at various venues during in service training
Tell me about some of your current students.
Students come from very diverse backgrounds and studying a wide range of subjects eg Art to Zoology ranging through the Sciences. Most are very well self disciplined and, simply need someone to explain difficult topics which through force of circumstances, the School/College may have merely outlined eg High resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR).

Students who are not well focussed generally do not attend for more than a lesson or two!
Do you have a personal message for students?
I make students welcome, comfortable and relaxed so that they can devote all their energies to study. The emphasis is upon cultured informallity. I strive to develop their natural abilities and confidence... something which some day schools/colleges do not appear to do. I aim to make complex concepts clear and simple by using ordinary every day examples and with appropriate humour.Students work a lot better when they are not hungry... so I always offer light refreshments.
Students usually come to me for periods varying from 3 to 36 months depending on their requirements.

To reiterate, I aim to explain difficult concepts clearly, and to this end I have a large number of specialist tomes which in turn generally make concepts much clearer.
