- I'm keen to engage, through a variety of learning styles, to ensure students enjoy, retain and apply information. All studies include practice of past exam papers from SATS to GCSE and entrance examination.

- First Class Learning builds confidence in children, develops independent learning ability and exceeds their expectations. Students progress a step at a time, moving on only after they have understood a topic. A number of students have achieved entrance to private school through our coaching programme.

- Centre Director(s)
- Simon Deacon: I have tutored maths and English for 10 years and gained a good insight into pupil’s abilities through the school years. I’m particularly interested in “practical maths” and have excellent experience with a wide range of related topics; including developing 'Maths Wrap' - a device to encourage children to learn multiplication tables. The associated YouTube channel has had in excess of 120,000 views.
More recently I have been appointed as a high school governor and chair the Curriculum and Standards committee. - About Us
- Students follow a programme where the starting point has been determined by an initial assessment. This ensures that each student has a solid foundation and encourages them to build to the higher levels.
The maths programme is from number recognition to GCSE algebra and is suited to all ages. It includes topics such as shape, time, measurement, area/perimeter, series, etc.
The English programme helps to develop the key skills which will allow children to read fluently, spell accurately and write confidently. The development of consistent, joined handwriting is an integral part of the programme. All modules are carefully structured to include Reading and Spelling, Handwriting, Vocabulary Extension, Grammar and Punctuation, Comprehension, Planning and Independent Writing, Exam Preparation.
Practice papers are provided for school exams (KS1, KS2, GCSE) and direct one to one tuition is offered for children approaching these stages. - Additional Information
- Report from a FCL parent attending the North Leeds centre:
"First Class Learning has made a real difference to Nils. Before he joined FCL he struggled a lot with maths and was not motivated because he found it hard to follow the lessons in school. FCL taught him to work independently, gave him the confidence he needed, and brought him up to the expected level – and even beyond. At the end of the last school year he finished top of his math group and moved up to a higher set. At the parents evening last week we received very positive feedback from his math teacher who was amazed by the significant progress Nils has made." Prof Joern Dosch
