Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Maths up to and including GCSE.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a degree in Economics/Economic and Social History and a PGCE.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have 31 years experience of teaching maths in secondary school classrooms. When I started we were teaching O'Levels so I have experience of teaching GCSE since it was first introduced.I have privately tutored GCSE students who were borderline C/D who managed to gain their C and in some cases a B.
How much do you charge?
I charge £30 an hour.
Where do you teach?
I teach in my home in Maldon on the Poets Estate as I have all my resources there and it enables me to be more flexible.
When are you available?
As I am recently retired I am very flexible with times and just like to keep Sunday morning free.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have had most experience with 11-16, Key Stages 3 and 4 particularly GCSE, but can work with younger pupils.
Do you have a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have a CRB disclosure certificate as I teach at Sunday School.
Where and with whom did you train?
I gained my degree at The University of York and my PGCE at Brunel University.
Tell me about some of your current students.
In the summer of 2009 the 5 GCSE students that I was coaching all achieved the grades that they were hoping for. These students came to me through personal recommendation from colleagues that I have worked with. I recently took on my first student from The Tutor pages and we are making excellent progress as I am able to focus on the particular areas of weakness that I have found from going through past paper answers.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I love maths and hope I can pass on some of my enthusiasm if you are struggling with this subject. I have a good sense of humour so would like to make the tutoring experience fun as well as rewarding.
