- I am a first year student reading English Literature at Clare College, Cambridge, with a Choral Scholarship, having spent a gap year studying Voice at Trinity College of Music.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- My main interests are Music and English (I was offered a place at Clare in two consecutive years for each of these subjects, before finally opting for English). But I am also happy to tutor Religious Studies and History, though only up to GCSE Level.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- A Level/Pre U:
Cambridge Pre U Literature in English: Distinction One (I received full marks, which was the highest result in the country for this exam session)
Music A Level: A* (600/600)
Religious Studies A Level: A* (399/400)
History A Level: A* (397/400)
French AS Level: A (271/300)
GCSE and IGCSE:
9 A*s (English Literature, English Language, Drama, Chemistry, Physics - all IGCSEs. History, Religious Studies, Music, French - all GCSEs)
1 A (Maths) - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have had no tutoring experience thus far. I have however had some experience working with younger students, having coached and taught music to Year 9 pupils for a school musical production.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £20-£25 per hour, and for travel expenses outside of Zone 3.
- Where do you teach?
- I could teach at home or at students' homes.
- When are you available?
- Most of the Easter Vacation - March 17th-April 23rd.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- Mainly GCSE and A Level, but I could also teach Common Entrance and Key Stage 3.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- No.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I have acquired a sound grasp of the GCSE and A Level exam system over the last few years, which could hopefully be put to further use - though having said that, I would much prefer not to just "teach to the test", unless exam pressure is especially imminent. Ideally, especially with English, I would ideally like to try to help develop ways of thinking, rather than than just handing over information on a plate, so to speak.
I would appreciate some advance notification of texts being studied for English exams, so that I have the opportunity to read them if I have not already done so.
