- I am an experienced teacher and active performer based in North West London - don't hesitate to get in touch!
Please see my website www.georginaleach.co.uk/ - Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach the Violin.
Once a solid classical technique has been established, I am also very happy to explore other genres of music and improvisation with my students as they wish. - Tell me about your qualifications.
- I graduated from Manchester University in 2006 with a First Class honours degree and from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2007 achieving an Upper Level GRNCM. I studied at both institutions concurrently on the ‘Manchester Joint Course’.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching the violin since I was sixteen both privately and in a school setting. I have recently been appointed the violin teacher at Mount Carmel RC School in Ealing and have several private students ranging from 4yrs to 50yrs from beginners to post Grade 8. Everyone learns differently so I place a great emphasis on appealing to the individual, adapting my approach and method accordingly. I am a positive and encouraging teacher - learning an instrument should be fun, and lessons something to look forward to. I have been extremely fortunate to have received outstanding and inspiring tuition throughout my own musical career and strive to pass this on to my own students.
I am an active performer who has had a rich and varied career so far – I have recently recorded and been playing live shows with Seasick Steve; played on X-Factor and the Royal Variety Show; for Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Weber; at Glastonbury with my folk/roots band the 'Moulettes' and have a wealth of studio recording experience. I have also led and managed my own string quartet playing at weddings and high-end corporate functions. Although classical music will always be my first love, I am passionate about improvisation and exploring different genres of music from jazz to folk, gypsy, rock, pop, rap… you’d be amazed at how versatile a violin can be!!
I have also trained and worked as a Music Leader helping to devise and deliver workshops on a great variety of youth music projects working with Opera North and The Halle. I have attended training sessions by some of the countries most respected educators in this field. - How much do you charge?
- 60mins £30
45mins £25
30mins £20
I offer an initial Consultation/Taster lesson at the reduced price of £15
There is also a discounted fee per person for group lessons. Please contact me for more details. - Where do you teach?
- I teach from my home in Dollis Hill, and the surrounding areas Hamstead, Maida Vale, Queens Park, Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill, St John's Wood, Kilburn, Willesden . I also teach in the Hammersmith, Chiswick, Ealing area on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
I am happy to travel to students’ homes for an additional travel cost. - When are you available?
- Please contact me for further details.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and abilities from complete beginners up to Grade 8. So whether you are four years old, sixty-four years old, a complete beginner or coming back to playing after a few years off don't hesitate to get in touch.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I am happy to prepare students for Grade exams
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Yes, the Musician's Union
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I trained at the Royal Northern College of Music under Yossi Zivoni and have participated in masterclasses given by Yo-yo Ma, Ivry Gitlis and Ben Zander.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I currently have ten students all doing very different things! My youngest is 4yrs old and we are steadily working through Suzuki Book 1; another has just acheived a high pass mark in her Grade 3 and we are concentrating hard on vibrato and sight-reading; one of my adult students has never been able to play without music and specifically wants me to teach her to play by heart and how to work out tunes by ear; another adult pupil is coming to the violin after playing the flute professionally.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I am a firm believer in Sinichi Suzuki’s assertion that everyone can learn how to play the violin beautifully – similarly as everyone learns to speak his or her mother tongue beautifully. Yes, it takes time and patience but the rewards are absolutely worth it.
It’s never to late or too early to start learning the violin - so I look forward to hearing from you!
