GCSE music - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been making a living from guitar playing since the age of 19 performing in various outfits around the UK and the rest of the world. My favourite gigs so far have been supporting Erykah Badu in Switzerland and performing at Montreal, North Sea and Glastonbury festivals with Andreya Triana.
I taught guitar and bass at the Hall School in Wimbledon for 3 years and have taught privately for 6 years. I have also assisted in teaching work at ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) and taken part in various workshops in schools.
On a personal note, way before any formal training, I grew up playing by ear in a large musical family with lots of creative interaction. This grounding in an aural approach to learning really helped my development and is something I like to pass on to students. - How much do you charge?
- 30 pounds per hour
15 pounds per half hour
I charge for travel expenses. - Where do you teach?
- I usually teach at the student's house or from my home in East Dulwich but I also have access to a studio space in Camberwell.Travelling to surrounding areas is not a problem, e.g (Dulwich, Brixton, Honour Oak, Forest Hill, Peckham, Camberwell, Denmark Hill, New Cross, Lewisham, Bermondsey, Tulse Hill, Nunhead etc...) Travel to other areas of London is also possible.
- When are you available?
- I am generally flexible with times/days.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- All ages and levels.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes, I have a CRB certificate.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I have Skype with a built in camera and microphone, also a high speed internet connection.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- Trinity College of Music - Mike Outram, Simon Purcell, Paul Bartholemew.
Simo Lagnawi - Moroccan Gnawa Master
I spent 3 summers busking around Europe, this experience taught me alot. - Tell me about some of your current students.
- I have a range of students, some are children and teenagers who want to learn popular rock and pop songs, some are older students who have an interest in jazz harmony, blues, advanced chords and improvisational techniques.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- The ability to express yourself with a musical instrument is a very special skill to have in life. The guitar in particular is brilliant because it has a central role in so many genres of music, therefore there are always new and exciting things to learn. Many people gain alot of confidence from learning to play an instrument and also enjoy having fun and interacting with other musicians. Music has certainly always been fun for me so I encourage that relaxed atmosphere in lessons whilst helping the student to reach their targets.
