View My Full Profile- Personal Message
- Hi there, my name is Theo. If you think I can be at all helpful in aiding your musical progress then please get in touch. Lessons are held in a relaxed and fun environment.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach singing, song-writing, music theory, jazz theory, vocal coaching and jazz/pop/rock piano.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a BA(Hons) in music from Durham University including a 1st in their performance module.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching for several years and have performed at prestigious venues including The 606 Club, The Savoy, Waldorf Astoria, Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, The RAC Club and Westminster Abbey.
"Soulful, earthy vocal-led jazz from this impressive young singer with a powerful yet subtle voice, Jackson also has a knack of penning Stevie Wonder-esque originals that avoid the usual crooner clichés. Helping maintain these lofty standards are superb Empirical altoist Facey and cool guitarist McCredie. Jackson's one to watch out for."
TIME OUT
"Singer-pianist Theo Jackson is rapidly gaining a reputation on the scene as a composer of strikingly original songs with a captivating stage presence."
STEVE RUBIE, THE 606 CLUB
"Vocalist Theo Jackson leads his band from the piano, with a confidence and assurance that comes from being a true musician, and the trust and knowledge that the other guys on the stand are too."
LONDONJAZZ - How much do you charge?
- New pupils are invited to have a free chat. Over a cup of tea (and perhaps a custard cream or two) I'll ask you a number of questions relating to your musical interests and ambitions. You also have the oppertunity to ask me some questions and to decide whether the environment is right for you. From then on lessons are charged at £25 per 45mins. Normally lessons run to nearer the hour but they're supposed to be 45 mins.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach from my lovely little flat in Jericho, Oxford. I don't travel for lessons unless there is a good piano at the venue, even then I might be reluctant I'm afraid.
- When are you available?
- I teach Monday to Fridays. Daytimes are best for my rather eratic gigging schedule but some evening spaces are certainly possible.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach from 15yrs upwards. No upper limit. All abilities welcome.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- yes
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I haven't considered this before but I have skype with top-class microphones so I'm sure it possible. Contact me if you're interested. Given that I haven't tried it before i'd be happy to give a discount to the first pupils online.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Musicians' Union
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I studied music at Durham University where I had private lessons with acclaimed ex-pat New York jazz singer Sandi Russell. After I graduated I moved to London where I continued to have occasional masterclasses with some of the best in my field including Ian Shaw and Lianne Carroll.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I also have excellent recording facilities which provide an oppertunity to gauge your progress and also some recordings with which to promote your music.
