Personal Message: We offer Maths and English tuition for students of all ages and abilities, from pre-school to adult. Students follow The Kumon Method of Learning which, since 1958, has become one of the best and most successful methods of study in the world.
Classes: What we care about most at the Kumon Centre is the nurture and progress of each student as an individual, the unlocking of that student's potential and the maximum development of his or her skills. This is achieved by planning and tailoring a completely personalised programme of daily study for each student specifically designed to include confidence-building, mastery of study skills and encouragement of a positive attitude towards self-learning. Students come to class once or twice a week, exchange homework and stay for about 30 minutes on average to do their classwork which is completed independently but overseen by the Instructor. The youngest ones are guided by the Class Assistants at the Skills Table. Students then wait until their work is marked so that any corrections can be done before going home, enabling them to learn quickly from their mistakes. Whilst waiting they can either practise their counting skills on the number boards or read some of the library books in our collection.
Ages and Levels Covered: We cater for adult learners as well as children from pre-school to secondary age. Early Maths skills include counting, sequencing, developing number concepts and pencil control whilst the higher skills cover simultaneous and quadratic equations and calculus. The English programme develops many aspects of learning about vocabulary and grammar besides instilling a love of reading through study and critique of extracts from popular stories and novels. Kumon produces a Recommended Reading List of books and authors which is available to help students select further reading material for their language development.
Opening Times: Classes take place on Wednesdays and Fridays between 3.45pm and 5.45pm. Students may attend on either or both of these days at any time during the two-hour slot to suit family commitments.
Tuition Fees: Tuition fees are set as follows: Enrolment fee - £25; Single-subject fee - £55 per calendar month for either Maths or English; Dual-subject fee - £110 per calendar month.
Special Offers: Enrolment on the Kumon programme involves a Free Assessment in Maths and/or English of the student's ability by means of a diagnostic test which will highlight the strengths and weaknesses of his or her skills. The Instructor will then be able to determine the particular starting point suitable for that student on the Kumon programme. Family discounts are available.
Directions: Ashby-de-la-Zouch is a small market town very close to a busy junction of major roads: the A42 to Birmingham, M1 to Nottingham, A512 to Loughborough and A511 to Burton-on-Trent and Leicester. Our Study Centre is in the Methodist Church at the bottom end of town and there is plenty of free parking space in the adjacent supermarket car park.
