- Personal Message
- My name is Julia Pareja Cubero, and I am a violin student at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have been playing violin since I was 7, and I strongly believe in my capacities to help my students to improve, both in chamber music and violin.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach violin, Spanish (writing, reading, listening, speaking) up to GCSE level. I can also teach Chamber Music since I have worked myself in many different groups during my career, and also been in some Masterclasses.
As a Spanish native, I also teach oral Spanish lessons up to A-Level. - Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am currently undergoing a Violin performance degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama (BMus). I have some experience teaching violin to children.
In Spanish, I am a Spanish native and I lived in Spain for 19 years.
Regarding chamber music, it is one of the most important subjects we have in the Guildhall, so I have had coaching with members of some of the greatest groups in the world. - What kind of experience do you have?
- For 6 years I studied at the "Professional Music Conservatoire of Seville" in Spain. I have taken part in several chamber, orchestral, duet and solo concerts in the past, and I still do. Last year I left home and came to London to continue my violin studies at the Guildhall School, looking for the best musical education I could obtain.
As I said earlier, I have had great experience in Chamber Music, both in Spain and UK, giving concerts and working in different groups (duet, trio, quartet, quintet...) since I was young, and also received coaching from some of the best chamber musicians. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £25/ hour on violin or £12.50/ half hour, and I am very prepared to travel but at a potential extra cost to cover expenses and travel time.
For Chamber Music lessons I charge £10 per member, that would be £30 for trios, £40 for quartets, etc.
For language lessons I charge £20/hour. - Where do you teach?
- Mainly in my flat or in a room at School (in Barbican Centre), but I am very able to teach in and around Barbican and nearby areas with an extra cost to cover travel. My closest tube stations are Moorgate and Barbican.
- When are you available?
- I am available during the week and on weekends, the best thing to do is to contact me to discuss timetable details.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- On violin and chamber music, I am happy to teach complete beginners to advanced amateurs up to grade 5/6. It doesn't need to be a "professional" objective, I will very happily teach students that take violin as a hobby or a pleasure (although this doesn't mean working less!!). And as for languages, I teach as A-Level Spanish, and I can teach children from any age since I am very happy working with young children as complete beginners, and also help other-aged people to improve their level.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I do not currently have a CRB.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I studied in Seville, Spain, under the tuition of Alejandro Tuñón. Later on, in Madrid, with Alfredo García Serrano, and now, at Guildhall School of Music, with Detlef Hahn.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Your aspirations are your possibilities. (Samuel Johnson)
