- Personal Message
- I am a freelance musician/composer/teacher and workshop facilitator who enjoys sharing my passion for music with others.
My musical tastes are varied including classical, jazz, world, electronic, funk, rock, folk, avant garde. I believe music should always be fun and I take people's tastes in music into consideration when teaching. - Which subject(s) do you teach?
- My main instrument is alto saxophone though my degree is in music composition. I can also teach acoustic guitar, music theory, composition and music technology.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- BMus Music Composition 1st Class Honours - Trinity College of Music
Alto saxophone Grade 8 (Trinity Board) - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching saxophone and guitar privately for over a year. I frequently work with children and adults with disabilities in music and theatre workshops as well as working at community composition workshops and running music tech projects with A level students.
- How much do you charge?
- £15 per half hour
£25 per hour
I charge for travel if necessary. - Where do you teach?
- I teach primarily at my parents house in Chesham though I am willing to travel to local areas (e.g. Amersham, Chalfonts, Chorleywood, Rickmansworth etc.) as well as places in North London that are reachable by tube.
- When are you available?
- I'm usually very flexible so any day and any time is a possibility!
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- Sax: beginners to intermediate level (up to Grade 8 saxophone).
Guitar: beginners only, preferably those wanting to learn acoustic guitar. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I leave the decision as to whether to take an exam or not to the student, though my preference for examining boards is Trinity-Guildhall as it is very flexible for the student and offers both Jazz and standard saxophone grades. I am also happy to prepare students for ABRSM exams too.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- While at Trinity College of Music I had guitar lessons with Dominic Ashworth and sax lessons with Mark Lockheart
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- My current students range from children to adults, mostly of a beginner-intermediate level.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I'm happy to offer a taster lesson for students to see if they think I am the right tutor for them and am happy to offer advice/suggestions over email if needed.
