Personal Message
As a London based professional cellist, it is extremely rewarding to share with others the knowledge I have gained through years of studying this instrument. I enjoy teaching both committed players as well as those who play cello as a hobby.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Cello. I can also teach music theory to Grade 5 standard.
Tell me about your qualifications.
A Level: A in Music, A in History and A in Economics
GCSE’s: 5 x A*, 5 x A

Grade 8 Cello Distinction
Grade 5 Piano Distinction
Grade 5 Music Theory Distinction

I am in my 3rd year of studying toward a BMus (Hons) Degree in cello performance, and the LTCL teaching degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
What kind of experience do you have?
Having missed a lot of school from an early age due to a medical condition which was finally eradicated at the age of 17, I learnt to teach myself when I was too ill to have lessons. This has molded me into a conscientious, fastidious and hard worker in order to gain the best results that I can. I have had experience in taking cello sectionals in my secondary school orchestra, giving individual lessons from the age of 18 and I have also been involved in the Southbank Centre's FUNharmonics workshop days for the past year where I have introduced the cello to children between the ages of 18 months and 10 years.
How much do you charge?
I charge £15 for half an hour, £20 for 45 minutes, and £25 per hour. Consultation lessons are 30 minutes in duration. If I am travelling to give a lesson I will usually ask for a small contribution toward my travel costs.
Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach in my home in Blackheath (Royal Borough of Greenwich: SE3) but am very willing to travel within a reasonable radius to give a lesson.
When are you available?
I have availability on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday and am fairly flexible in terms of time within those days. However, I may sometimes have alterations to my timetable and concert schedule that means that I am forced to change the time of a lesson some weeks.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any age. I am comfortable teaching any level up to grade 8 standard and beyond.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I like to motivate my students and am happy to organise ABRSM or Trinty exams should the pupil wish to take them when the suitable level has been attained. However, exams aren't for everyone and therefore I am happy to teach those who would rather not take exams. Equal development can take place either way!
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I can get one if it is necessary.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM).
Where and with whom did you train?
I am currently studying with Naomi Butterworth at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Don't hesitate contacting me if you are interested in lessons. I strive to understand my pupils needs when learning as no one person is the same as the next. I am therefore flexible in my teaching and aim to create an enjoyable atmosphere in which my pupils can learn. I take much influence from Paul Harris who advocates simultaneous learning strategies in order to cover more in the lesson without the pupil feeling like they are taking on too much at one time.
