- Hi I'm Lydia. I currently have space for new pupils so don't hesitate to contact me if you have any enquiries.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach Piano, Oboe, Recorder and Music Theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have just graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a first-class honours degree.
I have Grade 8 distinction piano and an ATCL oboe performance diploma. - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching privately for three years and enjoy teaching both children and adults, beginners and more advanced students. I have prepared pupils for the Associated Board exams, always achieving good results.
In terms of performance, I currently play in the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, London Arts Orchestra, Treblos Wind Quintet and the Arnold Camerata. I won the Chandos Young Musician Competition in 2009 and frequently perform solo recitals around the country. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £30 per hour, but can also give half hour lessons for £15 or 45 minutes for £22.50.
- Where do you teach?
- I mostly teach in my music room at home, very close to Southfields station in Wandsworth. Occasionally it's possible for me to travel to students' homes if it's convenient for us both, but it's best to contact me to discuss this.
- When are you available?
- My availability is very flexible, and I can teach during the week as well as at weekends. I am usually also available in the school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and levels for oboe, from beginner to grade 8. For piano I teach up to grade 6, and for recorder and music theory up to grade five. I would recommend a minimum age of 8 for oboe due to the physical demands of the instrument, and 5 for piano and recorder.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- No but I would be happy to apply for one if required.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I am currently studying for a Master of Performance (postgraduate course) at the Royal College of Music with Christopher Cowie, Gareth Hulse and Christine Pendrill. At the Guildhall School of Music and Drama I studied oboe with Richard Simpson, Gordon Hunt and Alison Teale, and piano with Laura Roberts.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- One of my students has just passed grade three oboe with distinction after having only been playing the oboe for 18 months.
