My goal is to guide progress and development to take you where you would like to be with music. With a desire to learn, open mind, focus and dedication to improve, anything is possible.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Standing and sitting double bass with the French bow and the standard jazz pizzicato styles, electric bass, songwriting.

Lessons incorporate Alexander Technique to avoid injury and encourage good playing habits.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I completed my Master of Music in Leadership at Guildhall on a full scholarship studying with Thomas Martin and earned my Bachelor of Music at Juilliard, also on full scholarship, studying with Timothy Cobb.

My Leadership degree as a Guildhall Artist polished my training in performance as well as music education. At Juilliard, I earned the distinctive Peter Mennin Prize upon graduation for outstanding achievement and leadership as well as completed their D.E.L.T.A. Leadership Program. I was Tim's teaching assistant for two years.

I trained in the Alexander Technique for 5 years at Juilliard and Guildhall with teachers Jane Kosminsky, Lauren Schiff, and Selma Gokcen, and incorporate this school of thought into my private lessons.

Currently, I earned a place on the London Early Years Music Network to work as a music leader in educational settings.
What kind of experience do you have?
Wide range of experience in classical, jazz, indie and popular music scenes as a bassist (upright & electric) and songwriter/lyricist.

Have written original music in collaboration as well as by myself. Records include Mirror by Flux (available on Spotify, iTunes, etc). Currently working on my solo live set including my vocals, bass and self-written backing tracks.

Won a place on the BBC Concert Orchestra extras list after auditioning.

Recording sessions: Nitin Sawhney's Enslaved videogame soundtrack in the Dairy Studios, Bollywood film That Girl in Yellow Boots as a solo jazz bassist, BBC Radio 3

Performed with conductors including Robert Abbado, Pierre Boulez, James Levine, James DePreist, Anne Manson, George Manahan, David Robertson, Leonard Slatkin, Stefan Sanderling, Michael Tilson Thomas, Xian Zhang, Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding

Performed in venues including Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall, Purcell Room, O2 Arena, IndigO2, Crush Room of Royal Opera House, English Coliseum, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Barbican Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wembley Arena, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Grand Auditorium of Gulbenkian Foundation.

Have also performed in BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury Festival, Kings Place for Talvin Singh's Symbiosis of Sound, The Front Room of Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of Alchemy Festival, Jazz Café, Concrete in Shoreditch, The Great Escape Festival, Proud Camden.
How much do you charge?
£40 per hour.

I also offer other lengths to suit various needs and requests. Typical alternatives: Younger beginner students- 30 minutes for £20, and advanced students: 90 minutes for £55 or 2 hours for £70.
Where do you teach?
Lessons are located in London. It is very close to the Gants Hill tube station on the Central line. Easy travel and access with a double bass.
When are you available?
Generally, weekday lessons are Monday-Thursday. First lesson slot starts at 7:30 am, last slot starts at 5:30 pm.

Aim to accommodate schedules based on both of our availabilities.

Sunday afternoon lessons negotiable.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I welcome all ages and levels into my teaching studio and look forward to the variety of backgrounds and experience that students have.

Currently, levels range from absolute beginner to seasoned bassists looking to refine their skills. Ages from under 10 to over 65.

I offer students practical advice on becoming a professional musician in their desired genre, or tapping into the scene as a hobbyist. Advice on purchasing or renting your first instrument is also available.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM grades and any audition including conservatoires, orchestras, bands and pop ensembles.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Video Skype lessons. This has proven to be a great tool if students have a decent internet connection.

I currently teach students in four different time zones including Mexico, Afghanistan, Luxembourg, New York and across the UK. Some even live in London but prefer to eliminate the burden of travel with their instruments, especially to save time after a long work day or utilize the early morning hours before going to work.

Guildhall School of Music & Drama (Master of Music)- 2 years with Thomas Martin (former Principal Bass of London Symphony Orchestra, prominent soloist and freelancer)
I was Principal Bass including for Strauss Ein Heldenleben in Barbican Hall.

London Symphony Orchestra Scheme.

Early training was with Ralph Jones, former principal of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Masterclasses and juries include Edgar Meyer, Eugene Levinson, Klaus Stol, Joseph Guastafeste, Orin O'Brien, Rinat Ibragimov, Kevin Rundell, Milton Masciadri, Franco Petracchi

Summer music festivals include Aspen Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Camp, Brevard Music Center.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Lessons are tailored to individual needs. Most lessons balance time spent on technical exercises, repertoire and songs, aural training and music theory. I constantly evaluate student posture and habits to ensure a solid foundation of technique to facilitate musical interpretation and character.

My students are taught in a way that they learn to apply concepts and ideas themselves. My goal is to make sure that my students are self-learning, free thinkers and develop their own unique sound with the instrument.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I appreciate that all my students have their own goals and direction with the double bass, so I take it as a personal challenge to ensure students progress as they wish.

My aim is to keep the learning environment productive as well as fun. My teaching studio is comfortable with a large mirror that allows students to easily identify technique and posture concepts. A bass stool is provided.
