Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach voice and speech skills, singing, public speaking and presentation skills and connecting to text. I also prepare students for drama school and music college auditions and teach voice and communication skills to people with autism.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated with Distinction from the MA Voice Studies Course at the Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London in December 2010 and I studied for four years on the Perfomer's Course at Trinity College of Music (1992-1996) where I gained my Dip.TCL Performer's Diploma and my LTCL Singing Teacher's Diploma.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching and coaching voice for over fifteen years on both a one to one basis and in workshops and classes.
How much do you charge?
My current fees (2012) are £40.00 per hour for lessons taking place at my house in Teddington. I can travel within a reasonable distance but will charge more to cover the cost of this depending on the distance travelled. Following the first lesson, after which I will propose a programme of work and a number of lessons, I require a deposit of the lesson fee when the second lesson is booked. This will be returned on termination of lessons.
Where do you teach?
Although I prefer to teach at my house in Teddington where I have plenty of space, a piano, and all my teaching materials, I will also travel within a reasonable distance (see above). I live within easy reach of Richmond, Twickenham and Kingston-upon-Thames and am on a direct train line from London Waterloo (30 minutes).
When are you available?
I teach during the daytimes and evenings Monday to Friday, and also work on Saturdays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach children and adults at all levels
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for the following: Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Singing Examinations; LAMDA Communication and Performance Examinations; RADA Shakespeare Certificate.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I was CRB checked in 2004 when I was teaching for the Music House for Children in Shepherds Bush, West London .
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the British Voice Association (BVA) and the International Centre for Voice (ICV) and regularly attend workshops and short courses.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I teach a wide range of students of all ages and from all walks of life. Past and present students include business people, lawyers, academics, students, singers and actors. Several students have recently won school music exhibitions and university choral scholarships and gained drama school places.
I also have twenty years experience of observing and working with autism and have taught several students with high functioning autism and Asperger's Syndrome. I have also devised and led voice skills workshops for people on the autism spectrum and wrote my MA thesis on this subject.
