I have always believed that music lessons should be fun. I have a lot of laughs with my students and my main aim is for them to leave every lesson feeling motivated and inspired to work hard.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Clarinet, Saxophone, Recorder and Piano. Music theory, aural skills and sight reading are included in all lessons if desired.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2007 with a BMus(Hons). I then moved to London where I gained an MA with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in 2009.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have over 10 years teaching experience to students of all ages and standards. I teach both privately and in schools, one to one and in groups. The majority of my students have been entered for ABRSM exams and my current pass rate is 100%.
How much do you charge?
I charge £25 - £30 per 60mins and £15 - £18 per 30mins depending on whether I travel to you or you travel to me and how far. First lessons are half price and group discounts are negotiable.
Where do you teach?
I am happy to teach from home and/or at students' homes - whatever is easiest for the student. I currently live Marchmont, Edinburgh, but I have a full UK driving licence and I am happy to drive to surrounding areas. I am particularly familiar with East Lothian.
When are you available?
As a professional freelancer, my timetable is very flexible. Depending completely on what the student wants, fixed or variable times can be organised.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have always taught students of all ages and standards.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
The majority of my students have been entered for ABRSM exams but I am also familiar with other programmes such as Guildhall and Trinity. I have prepared students for Standard Grade, Int 2, Higher and Advanced Higher recordings and live performances on several occasions.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Musicians Union
Where and with whom did you train?
At the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, I studied with Maximilano Martin (Principal Clarinet, Scottish Chamber Orchestra) and Simon Butterworth (Bass Clarinet, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra). At the Royal Academy of Music, I studied with Tim Lines (ex Principal Clarinet, London Symphony Orchestra), Angela Malsbury (Principal Clarinet, London Mozart Players) and Richard Addison (Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Eb Clarinet, Saxophones - London's West End)
