Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Recorder (all levels), Flute (up to Grade 6) and Music Theory (up to Grade 6).

Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BMus(Hons) degree from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have 7 years of teaching experience. I have taught privately, in schools,as a section tutor for orchestras, music workshops and with music centres. I have also performed all over Europe both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble. I am experienced in auditions, competitions and exams as well. My main focus is with teaching and I devote a lot of my time to my pupils both in and out of lesson times. I am also the Recorder Section Secretary for the North London Festival of Music, Drama & Dance and on the Executive Committee.

How much do you charge?
My rates are very simple. I charge £26 per hour , £20 per 45mins and £14 per 30mins.

Where do you teach?
I teach from home and do not travel to pupils' houses. This is because I have a teaching studio set up at home with many materials and teaching aids that I could not carry to a pupils' home. I feel that this benefits both the pupil and myself.

When are you available?
I am available most days and evenings to teach and am fairly flexible with all my pupils. I understand that life can be very busy and complicated and sometimes lessons will need to changed etc. I also continue teaching through the holidays and am able to offer the option of an intensive course of lessons.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages. At the moment I teach pupils from the age of 3 to 70! Age does not matter as long as you wish to learn. As regards to levels, I will teach people with musical experience and without. I teach all levels of recorder, up to grade 6 on the flute and music theory.

Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I have experience in preparing pupils for ABRSM exams, festivals, A Levels and GCSEs and also school entrance exams and interviews.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes I do have a CRB check.

Where and with whom did you train?
I was a member of the junior department of the RSAMD where I studied under Belinda Gough, David Fenessey, Sheena Gordon and Ruth Morley. After school I went to study under Pamela Thorby, Ian Wilson and Robert Erlich at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where I received my BMus (Hons) degree. I have attended many courses and masterclasses all over Europe as well.
