- I am a patient and friendly recorder teacher with experience of teaching all ages from Early Years to Adults. I am happy to discuss your specific requirements for lessons, groups tuition or workshops.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach the Recorder, Music Theory and Chamber Music Coaching to all ages and levels of experience. My particular focus is Early Music. I am also available for workshops on the recorder or group coaching. I also teach the recorder to early years children using the Suzuki Method.
I am an experienced recorder player and teacher of both adults and children. I believe that recorder should be taught from the beginning with the right level of technical training and understanding of the instrument. This means the student has a far more satisfactory learning experience and a better playing standard is the result. - Tell me about your qualifications.
- I studied at Goldsmiths College, London gaining a BMus (Hons) in Music in 1998. I studied at Trinity College of Music in the Early Music Faculty for two years on a flexible programme, studying with Rebecca Miles and Phillip Thorby. I am studying at Trinity for a Masters Degree course for four years, including Instrumental teaching leading to the LTCL (teaching award).
I am also a Suzuki Recorder teacher (Level 2), one of only a handful of Suzuki recorder teachers in the UK. I have also attended workshops on Dalcroze and Kodaly methods to teach early years children.
I have had many years as a management trainer training adults in a number of situation. - What kind of experience do you have?
- I am teaching a variety of ages and levels of experience including begineer adults, pre-school children and experience players.
I am the director of a number of groups for adult recorder players producing much of my own music arrangements. I have also conducted for the Society of Recorder Players and held bespoke workshops for childrens groups.
As a recorder player I have experience performing in numerous concerts including St Martin-in-the-Fields, Lincoln Early Music Festival, Old Royal Navel Chapel Greenwich and for the last three years in the International Exhibition of Early Music. I am also a member of Ensemble Tramontana, winners of the Trinity College of Music Early Music Competition 2011. My music specialism is Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Music. I also play Viola da Gamba, medieval percussion, violin and piano. - How much do you charge?
- For music lesson I charge a basic one-to-one fee of £30/hr within reasonable travelling distance. I also often recommend joint lessons which is a cost effective and efficient way of having tuition. Early years Suzuki tuition is charged at £15/30mins For group coaching please contact me and I will be happy to discuss arrangements.
- Where do you teach?
- I live in Crystal Palace, London, but can travel. I can teach pupils in their own homes. For longer, less frequent sessions I can travel further. For larger groups I can also arrange suitable venues if required. The recorder groups I run are held in Forest Hill, Pimlico, nr Victoria and Crystal Palace.
- When are you available?
- I am available throughout the week at various times. Please contact to discuss.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I can teach all ages from children to adults. Complete beginners to more advance players. If you are adult who wants to return to playing after many years I can help. I can support you with lessons until you feel more confident and wish to join a recorder group. For more advanced players I can hold regular lessons to improve technique and work towards concerts or exams.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes. References available upon request.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- ERTA (European Recorder Teachers Association), ISM including public liability insurance. (Incorporated Society of Musicians) BSI (British Suzuki Institute)
