Which subject(s) do you teach?
All guitar styles, acoustic, classical, electric, bass, , Harmonica, Banjo, and Ukulele. Song writing and Composition. Studio demo and recording techniques. Music theory and grades to Grade 8 available but not essential, also basic and beginner level from 4 -5 years of age. A trial session will determine if your child will respond to playing an instrument, I find the Ukelele is ideal for very young beginners.
Tell me about your qualifications.
35 years experience playing in various bands and solo work around the UK, 12 years professional guitar tutor at all levels and with all styles from General playing to rock/shred and bass.
What kind of experience do you have?
Working solo and with duos and bands for public entertainment, and 10 years as a full time professional guitar tutor.
How much do you charge?
My studio rates are £30.00 per hour and discounted at various times of the year subject to personal arrangement, rates charged depend on number of pre-booked and prepaid sessions, and can be reduced to £20.00 per hour . Also 2 or more students up to max 5 can further reduce the individual cost to £10 per hour.
Where do you teach?
Purpose built light and airy external Home Studio in Cheddar Gorge, well equipped with teaching books, DVDs, Video, recording, digital equipment all types of guitars aand other imusical instruments, heated and air conditioned. I am now available for tuition away from Cheddar within 1-2 hours travel. A travelling charge will be agreed in advance and it therefore may be practical to run a longer than normal 2-4 hour session say once or twice monthly at your home, or designated place where any number of students can share the session and split the cost.
When are you available?
Every week day of the year 8am - 9pm Saturdays by special arrangement sometimes but rarely on Sundays. School and Bank holidays included
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and all levels.
Do you have a CRB disclosure certificate?
An application will be made later this year to satisfy forthcoming legal requirements for self employed, private tutors.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Plans being made via website at this moment but not yet available.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors.
Where and with whom did you train?
Self-taught with experience gained working with other professional musicians and Music teachers over many years.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Many of my current and past students are now successfully playing in local bands and performing in public.
Do you have a personal message for students?
My objective is to teach the correct way to play various styles of guitar playing, (along with professional shortcuts and techniques) for the many varied styles of music and also have fun learning. Although some theory and possibly the discipline of taking grades is helpful in many ways with some who request the more academic approach. The professional study courses and exams offered by Trinity college, Rockschool or RGT Registry of Guitar tutors grading system is available and can be considered a good structure to learning guitar, but not essential.
