- Personal Message
- I'm now 60 and I still enjoy teaching. I love to help students overcome their fears by becoming more skilled and competent. I get alongside the student and work out how to help them learn. I am good at explaining things so that they are memorable. I have extra teaching qualifications.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach all junior school subjects. I teach English to 'A' level and I have helped with University students' assignments.
I have a good record of Entrance exam work over the last 8 years. I teach maths to GCSE, I am good with Maths and English phobic students. I teach drama for LAMDA exams, auditions, public speaking and presentation skills. - Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am a qualified teacher with an Open University Advanced Diploma in Special Needs. I have a CACDP stage on sign language certificate and experience with braille.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I was Head of Adult Basic Education in a large College and worked in its Special Needs Department. I taught for ten years in prisons rising to Head of Key Skills for Matthew Boulton College Glen Parva site. I was an external verifier for Wordpower and Numberpower (for City and Guilds). During my work with troubled young people I became a counsellor and hypnotherapist, these gave me insights into the effects of stress and how to relieve it. I still spend time and money on my professional development eg drama conferences and updating myself with the new GCSE trends and demands.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £25 an hour for my time. If you want me to work with two or more children, I can. If I work with more than one child, my time will be spread more thinly. It is up to my customers.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach better at home where I have the full range of my books. I travel to Nottingham, West Bridgeford, Arnold, Castle Donnington, Eastwood, Hucknall, Derby and East Bridgeford and areas around. I am willing to travel aound a 20mile radius of Beeston.
- When are you available?
- I teach whenever I am needed. I have done preschool lessons (7:30-8:30) and worked until 10pm (with adult drama students). I usually take my holidays during term times so I can fit round my students when they are on holiday. During the weekends I am able to work all day.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- My Special Needs work means that I am an excellent teacher of reading and basic work. I teach from the starting of reading and I coach university students who need help with assignments and writing skills.
I teach maths up to GCSE level.
I trained as a Drama teacher and I have taught public speaking for many years now. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- LAMDA speech and drama exams
Private entry GCSE as free standing subjects or retakes.
I help prepare for Entrance exams, GCSE, SATs and coach for university assignments. - Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have applied for one with another tutoring agency.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- The Society of Teachers Of Speech and Drama.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- All my students are important to me.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Tutors help you. I only set homework that is clearly going to help you. Face your fears, work on improving and you will feel better..... that's a promise.
