- Personal Message
- I am particularly motivated to assist those students who are unable to cope with routine schooling and education because of emotional or social challenges.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I mentor in Foundation Maths, Business Studies and Design Technology. I also have experience in Key stage two literacy as well as general studies.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am qualified as an Agriculturalist to degree level but have also a Certificate in Education. My main qualifications concern specialist courses in Special Needs and counselling. I also have qualifications in retailing and business as well as food retailing and training qualifications.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have taught as the Special Needs Maths teacher in a private school as well as secondary school experience. I have tutored and developed specialist skills for the last seven years and worked in that area for local authorities and private customers, significantly for two years supporting students who are under child protection. I have also experience in supporting school phobic students and am retained by a local school as an advisor for that condition.
- How much do you charge?
- I endeavour to keep charges to a minimum, and subsequently do not charge travel expenses under ten miles. I try to make the mentoring support as available as possible and will offer discount if possible.
- Where do you teach?
- I prefer to tutor in my dedicated room near Salisbury, however will travel if required to most villages around Salisbury and to Warminster, Winchester or Bournmouth if required.
- When are you available?
- I am available all day every weekday. I will tutor on Saturday mornings if needed but prefer not to. I am available during school holidays except for July and August.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I am happy to teach students from 9 years old to 18 years old. I tutor at foundation level and I am able to support adult learners in numeracy.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I am concerned about helping students achieve, particularly those that have had a difficult time at school and are wishing to get that C grade at GCSE. Most students are able to improve their grades spectacularly once they have acquired more confidence.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I always have current Enhanced CRB Disclosure
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- None at present but I am always happy to support students by email and my own resources electronically.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- It is very frustrating when you know that every one else "gets it" but you don't. Very often it is simply a question of explanation. There are many different types of learning and your school or current teacher may not have time or be able to show you them all. Very often it takes just one word or one picture that make sense of the problem. Working with a good tutor you will come to trust that a way through will be found. That is the heart of a good tutor I believe. He will take time and trouble to understand you and present topics in a way that will not only empower you but will entertain and motivate you, learning, laughter and success are good friends even in Maths!
