Personal Message
I am married with two children. I understand the difficulties in fitting practise in to a hectic life style. My understanding of children helps me find exciting ways to motivate my pupils to learn.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach music. I have pupils who study Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano and Theory. I am based in Glassel - near Banchory - although I have pupils from Aberdeen City, Stonehaven and Aboyne.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold an Associate of Trinity College London Teaching Diploma passed with distinction.
In 2004 I studied Grade 8 - Guitar, Bass, Piano and entered myself for the exams. While studying for the teaching diploma I passed Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade 8 Theory.
In 2012 I will graduate from Aberdeen University with a Bachelor's degree in Music.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have successfully taught individuals and small groups since 1993.
Between 2002 and 2008 I ran a music school and shop.
I have delivered seminars to local groups as part of the out reach of the school.
Since 2003 I have performed on a professional basis as part a piano player as well as a member of various groups.
How much do you charge?
Individual lessons are £12 per half hour inrespective of instrument.
Group sessions are £5 per half hour per person.
Where do you teach?
My studio address is:
Office 1
Green Park Court
Glassel
Banchory
AB31 4DB
When are you available?
Monday - Friday 15:00 - 20:30
Saturday -09:00 - 17:00
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and all abilities are welcome.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
All levels. ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall and RockSchool.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I hold enhanced disclosure for my business, Aberdeen College and Aberdeen University.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Currently I post video lessons on youtube. These are free and act as taster videos. I can not emphasise enough the importance of getting quality tuition, but the videos go some way towards improving your musicianship.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
As a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, I adhere to their code of ethics.
Where and with whom did you train?
I have trained with Peter Stuart - RSAMD, Sarah Neil - Bassist for RSNO and Andy Brown - BA (Jazz) Leeds University.
Tell me about some of your current students.
My pupils vary in age from six to sixty. I have students who learn singing, guitar, bass, piano, drums, flute and clarinet. My ability to teach this variety of instruments means that pupils may study different instruments if their interest in one drops, or study more than one instrument. My students enjoy a wide ranging subject base ranging spanning - rock/pop, improvisation/composing and classical: I do not push pupils in to exams, if they show an interest I can coach to exam entrance.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Come as you are, but don't leave as you came. I encourage development in a broad range of musical interests.
