Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach all brass instruments and music theory from beginer to Grade 8 and beyond,I also teach national curriculum music and piano.

Tell me about your qualifications.
I am currently studying for a BA Music at Leeds College of Music with Jonathon Enright and Ian Davies and have received two scholarships for my performances (Alan Harkshaw 2009,and the Friends Scholarship 2010). Before this I studied at Trinity College of Music for a year with Graham Lee and Roger Argente.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have a vast experience of leading workshops for children and have a number of private pupils and teach for Roundhay Music Service. My pupils are of a variety of ages and abilities. As a performer I have a vast array of experience playing with orchestras,Big Bands, wind orchestras, Brass Band and pit bands. As a soloist I have played in numerous recitals in venues around Yorkshire and have played a concerto with a full wind orchestra in 2011.

How much do you charge?
The first lesson is half price, and I have reduced rates for half an hour lessons, but for an hour instrumental lessons the cost is £20 and for other subjects it is £25.

Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at students homes as it makes them feel more relaxed and so I am able to get the best results out of my pupils. I am willing to travel to most of West Yorkshire including towns like Leeds, Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Bradford and Halifax. I am also able to travel to other parts of Yorkshire like Sheffield, Rotherham and Humberside. For piano lessons I teach at students homes only.

When are you available?
I have times avaliable every day of the week and most evenings especially around 3 till 5pm

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and abillities, and believe that as long as the pupil is willing to learn they deserve the best tution I can give them.

Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Mainly ABRSM grades, but also TrinityGuildhall and Victoria College if this is the board the pupil has already taken.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes and I have safeguarding and safer recruitment training from the Department for Business,Innovation and Skills.

Where and with whom did you train?
I studied Trombone and Euphonium at both Leeds College of Music and Trinity College of Music and my trombone teachers include, Jonathon Enright,Ian Davies,Graham Lee and Roger Argente. At these colleges I studied both Classical and Jazz performance along with more academic subjects like composition, Theory and Harmony. I also took classes in teaching both 1 to 1 and group and conducting to complement my studies. For piano I have studied with Judith Dutch and know play proffesional cocktail piano around Leeds,as well as my proffesional trombone playing.

Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students ages range from 8 to 65 and they all have great reviews of my teaching, Many of them are sitting their graded exams and I have a good record of excellent results. Other students play simply for pleasure and have a rewarding time learning their instrument as a hobby. Whatever your age you should not be put off learning an instrument you are never to young or to old to learn a new skill like an instrument!
