Personal Message
I am an experienced, well-qualified and friendly tutor in music, providing a bespoke service to clients across London. My teaching is complimented by a career as a trombonist with groups including the RPO, SouthBank Sinfonia and the NSO.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
All brass instruments, with a specialism in Trombone; Academic music up to undergraduate level; Piano; Music Theory and Musicianship. I am also an experienced accompanist.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a first class degree in academic music from King's College London and an MA from the Royal Academy of Music. I have also completed A Levels in Music (A), English Literature (A), Law (A) and AS French (A).
What kind of experience do you have?
I am currently the brass tutor with ACS Hillingdon International School and St Anthony's Prep School, and was the acting director of music at Golders Hill School for the Winter term 2011. During my time as a peripatetic teacher in the London Borough of Brent I successfully ran several music theory classes and was the official accompanist for exam seasons, making me very familiar with the examination process.

I am a professional trombonist, having recorded and performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and Southbank Sinfonia among others.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour for all subjects except undergraduate music, for which I charge £40 to reflect the increased time spent preparing for lessons. This is inclusive of all lesson planning time and travel to the student's address.
Where do you teach?
I am able to teach from home but am also willing to travel throughout central and north London. For multiple students I will consider travelling further. I have a car so am not limited by the restrictions of public transport.
When are you available?
My availability is flexible because I am self-employed.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages from 6 upwards. I am confident teaching all brass instruments to beyond Grade 8 level, except the horn which I am able to teach up to Grade 5. I can teach academic music up to undergraduate degree level.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am able to prepare for any qualifications a student wishes to undertake but I will only enter a student for an exam when I am sure they will achieve a very high mark, and discourage setting time scales for exam progression, since learning an instrument is a highly personal undertaking.

For academic students I will follow the relevant exam syllabus.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have up-to-date CRB clearance from both of my schools.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can provide advice via email as required, but believe there is no substitute for face to face tutoring.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Musician's Answering Service.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied to undergraduate level at King's College London, the pre-eminent institution for academic music in the UK at the time of my enrollment. I then studied as a postgraduate at the Royal Academy of Music, where I was the recipient of awards by EMI, the James Pantyfedwen Charitable Trust and latterly the Musicians' Benevolent Fund.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Current students perform regularly in school productions and have been consistently successful in performance and theory exams.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I am committed to providing a good service to my students, with the emphasis on professionalism and enjoyment. I look forward to hearing from you.
