Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Classical Trumpet, Cornet, Euphonium, Music Technology and Music theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an A level in Music (A grade) and the same in Music Technology on the Edexcel board. I am curently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for my Bmus in Classical Trumpet with Paul Benniston: the Principal Trumpet player with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught beginners and intermediate players from 6 years old to 20 years old, however I am happy to teach older or younger and whatever standard. I have led workshops at schools as well as attending teaching masterclasses by some leading visiting professors at Guildhall and other institutions.
How much do you charge?
I charge £15 for half an hour £25 for an hour £35 for an hour and a half for trumpet lessons, all other prices are as stated on my profile. I am prepared to give group lessons for half price per head and I offer 1 consultation lesson free of charge.
Where do you teach?
I am based in Leytonstone so am able to teach from home if required, although I study in the City of London and therefore am prepared to teach anywhere within the greater London area. However, I would require extra money for expenses outside of zone 3.
When are you available?
My timetable is flexible, and frequently changes as I am a student and gigging musician, however I am usually able to find a regular time for people and rehersals most weeks. Any day or time is a potential lesson time so I am able to accomodate even the busiest of amateur musicians
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach from beginner to intermediate. I could if required teach up to grade 8 level. However, I feel that at such a level perhaps more experienced teaching is required, although I would really enjoy teaching someone at as higher standard.
Do you have a CRB disclosure certificate?
No.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I own a laptop with webcam and would be able to teach over the internet if required, I could therefore demonstrate concepts and also listen to pupils play if they had a similar set up, I would also be able to advise via e-mail if required however I expect that Web cam would be better.
Where and with whom did you train?
Guildhall School of Music and Drama - Paul Benniston
Tell me about some of your current students.
I teach a 20 year old trumpeter, she has her grade 5 and also plays the clarinet to a very high standard. I have taught her for 6 lessons and she is beginning to make incredible progress, always leaving the lessons confident and enthused. I have taught various A level students music technology all of whom have been 18 or 17 and all have passed.
Do you have a personal message for students?
If you would like to improve at a rate determined by yourself in a relaxed teaching environment with encouragement and need advice on various aspects of playing or even if you need a teacher to give you the incentive to work, I am confident that I will be able to both inspire and improve your playing over a resonable time frame. I am happy to help people prepare to take grades including music theory. I also have fun an excitng approaches for teaching younger less experienced players!!
