- A 1st Class graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music. I have lots of experience teaching a variety of instruments to all standards and ages. I have a strong passion for music, especially teaching and encouraging a growth of music in our society today.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- My principal instrument is the Trumpet which I have studied at music college for the past four years. Being a versatile player I also perform on the cornet, flugelhorn, E flat and D trumpets and the piccolo trumpet. All ages and standards are welcome for any of the brass instruments above.
My secondary instruments are the violin and piano, both of which I play up to a Grade 8 standard. On Violin I was a member of the Halle Youth Orchestra for four years. My piano playing often becomes useful when accompanying students. Due to not having studied these instruments at degree level I would be prepared to teach them up to Grade 5 standard.
My degree course also taught the basics of Music Theory and I realise how usefuln this is to young musicians, particularly when studying music at GCSE and A Level. I offer Music Thoery Lessons up to Grade 5 Standard and use the ABRSM Learning and Examination materials. - Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am a graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music with a 1st Class Honours degree in Music Performance.
I have also gained a diploma in Music Performance with the trumpet, making me a Licenciate of the Royal Schools of Music(LRSM).
Both these qualifications focus on performance combined with elements of Musicianship and Teacher Training. - What kind of experience do you have?
- In terms of teaching I have worked at Rochdale Music Service and the Education Group. This has involved individual and group teaching with a variety of standards and ages. I have also assisted and lead a Wider Opportunities programme within primary schools. These sessions teach general muscianship skills and allows a class of 30 students to each learn an instrument.
I am also currently involved with a variety of ensembles. Being heavily involved in the Brass Band tradition I currently play Solo Cornet with the Fairey(Geneva) Band who are the English National Champions. I really enjoy chamber music, playing at the moment in a trumpet quartet and also the Groves Brass Quintet who are a member of the Live Music Now scheme.
My musical career has brought me to play at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall alongside the BBC Philharmonic, the Royal Festival Hall, the Bridgewater Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall. I have also toured with the RNCM Symphony and Wind Orchestra as principal trumpet to Italy and Cincinnati. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £10 for half an hour and £20 for an hour for any brass instrument and theory lessons.
My violin and piano teaching is at a slightly discounted rate of £8 for half an hour and £16 for an hour.
If I am required to travel for lessons this may incur additional costs. - Where do you teach?
- I teach from home but am willing to travel for lessons within the Greater Manchester area.
- When are you available?
- Extremely flexible. Weekends also available upon request.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- All ages and standards.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I prepare students for the ABRSM Theory and Performance Examinations. This also includes the Music Medal syllabus'.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Previous CRB from the Royal Northern College of Music. Currently being updated.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I trained at the Royal Northern College of Music under John Dickinson, John Miller, David Staff and Jamie Prophet. I have also performed in Masterclasses with Hakan Hardenberger and Allen Vizzutti.
