Personal Message
Hello and welcome to my profile. I'm a patient and experienced teacher with a passion for sharing my enthusiasm for learning with students.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach mainly English - language to GCSE level and literature to degree level and beyond. I also teach the Graduate Diploma in Law and A level law, and history, music and religious studies to GCSE as well as Music Theory. I am very happy to advise on essay writing and exam technique, and can give guidance on university applications, including Oxbridge preparation. I am AQA-registered tutor, though I have extensive experience teaching all the exam boards at GCSE and A level (including OCR, Edexcel and WJEC).
Tell me about your qualifications.
I recently completed the Graduate Diploma in Law with Distinction, having graduated in 2009 with a Double First in English from Clare College, Cambridge University. Prior to this I spent a year studying performance (horn) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and obtained the Certificate in Higher Education Music (Distinction). I have A levels in English literature (A), German (A), History (A), Music (A) and AS Biology (A), and 12 GCSEs (9A*, 3A). I was placed in the top 5 in the country in GCSE English literature and Music. I am currently studying the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Moorgate.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have a variety of teaching experience on both a formal and an informal basis. I have three years private teaching experience, teaching students from a variety of different backgrounds of all ages and abilities. All my pupils have reached, and in many cases exceeded, their goals. I also have experience in advising on university and oxbridge applications through university access work, and am happy to advise on the UCAS process and assist with drafting personal statements.
How much do you charge?
I charge between £20 and £40 an hour, plus travel expenses outside of zones 1 and 2. I am very happy to negotiate discounts for longer or shorter lessons, for groups, or for more than one lesson in the same house. I find that several of my students (particularly at A level) benefit from 1.5 hours per week - where this is the case I offer special rates, as well as a discount for block-bookings of lessons. Please get in touch for more information.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home, in students' homes, or in any other agreed venue in a convenient location such as a library or coffee shop - I teach some current students in the Barbican Centre for example. Parents are welcome to sit in on children's lessons. My tuition base is North London, with the majority of my students within N1 and N16 postcodes. In some cases I am willing to travel further afield, but this is dependent on my schedule and may require special rates.
When are you available?
I am available weekday afternoons and evenings, and on Saturdays. I am also able to offer intensive sessions during school holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and levels from key stage 2 (age 7) upwards.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
All school exams from SATs, 11+ and Common Entrance to GCSE and A level, as well as for Oxbridge interviews and university study.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have a valid CRB check (enhanced disclosure).
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I offer online tutoring via email, Skype or instant messaging, whichever is most convenient for you.
Where and with whom did you train?
Clare College Cambridge, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the College of Law.
Tell me about some of your current students.
My current pupils range from Key Stage 2 (age 9) to Oxbridge applicants, and from those who need some extra help to those who want to be stretched beyond the classroom syllabus. I am delighted that one of my recent students has received an offer to read English at Cambridge, and another obtained a mark of 95% (A*) in an A level English re-sit.

January 2012 update: my 11+ student has been accepted at his first choice school, and 3 AS re-sit students obtained A grades (including 1 mark of 92%) - congratulations everyone!
Do you have a personal message for students?
Please contact me for further information. I'm happy to email you a detailed CV and confidential references on request. If requesting tuition, I would be grateful if you could include whether you want me to travel to you, and if so, where you live.
