- Classes
- Kumon provide individualised Maths and English programmes.
Attendance at class is on a "drop-in" basis during class times as each student works on their own individual development plan. Students take approximately 30 minutes per subject and attend class once a week, on a regular day. However, some parents choose to bring their child to the centre twice a week, enabling the team to work more closely with them; observing and guiding students' progress. - Ages and Levels Covered
- The Kumon programmes do not follow the national curriculum but work in a logical sequential way to develop mathematics and English skills to a level equivalent to "A" level topics. All students are able to work at the most suitable pace for themselves meaning it is suitable for children requiring support through to those requiring additional challenge to school work. Many of our students study above school level as the programme encourages development of potential.
The Kumon programme enables all children to study work at the most appropriate level for their individual ability meaning each child can attend on a "drop-in" basis allowing for approximately 30 minutes per subject studied. All newly enrolled students are guided through the class process by the class assistants who ensure they are welcomed, find their work quickly and swap completed homework for the work set for the following week.
Students work under close supervision initially to settle into their new routine and receive guidance to help establish their new study skills. The time spent in class is invaluable in understanding a child's needs and how best to support and develop them. This observation time ensures work set can be individualised by the Instructor to support their development and maximise their potential.
New topics are generally tackled in class, enabling a student to ask questions and feel confident prior to receiving further work to practise the subject at home. Once the class work has been completed and marked, any errors are corrected by the student assuring a positive outcome with all work completed as correct. This encourages greater confidence and boosts self-esteem as well as addressing any misunderstandings or careless errors to ensure the child is in the best position to tackle their homework. Students are observed working but may choose to ask for help themselves as needed, particularly as they begin to develop self-learning skills and are able to work with less dependency and intervention.
Students receive feedback during class for personal achievements and good attitude but are also able to take responsibility for their own learning by being able to discuss their own development and goals where appropriate. - Opening Times
