Personal Message
I love teaching students of all ages – especially adults! It’s never too late to start or return!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Recorder, Violin and Music Theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
Whilst completing my BMus honours degree, I passed the LTCL diploma. Further diplomas held include LLCM and a Fellowship in Music Education from Trinity College (FMusEdTCL).
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught privately and in schools in London since 1984 where teaching has been one-to-one and also in small groups. I have also run a number of regular workshop sessions for both adults and children.
Recently I have relocated to the Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire borders where I continue to give one-to-one tuition.
How much do you charge?
Lessons are usually £11 for a half hour individual lesson or £15 for 45 minutes. Fees for workshops or group lessons are by arrangement.
Where do you teach?
I usually teach at my home in Newark - although I do teach in Lincoln on one day each week.
When are you available?
By arrangement.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all age groups from 6 years old onwards - I have a lot of experience of teaching adults.
Recorder lessons are available from beginners to diploma level.
Violin lessons are currently available from beginners to around Grade 5.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
No.
Where and with whom did you train?
Music degree obtained at Lancaster University - further post-graduate studies undertaken at Trinity College of Music where I studied with Philip Thorby.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Many students like the challenge of working towards the graded examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and have taken these with great success. Some also participate in local music festivals as additional performance opportunities. For others, the challenge is to reach a standard where they can play the music they love – or to join an ensemble where they can play with others.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I am a very experienced teacher and I'm used to students of all ages and abilities. Over the years, I have come across most teaching and learning situations and hope to be able to deal with them with patience and good humour. Hopefully, lessons will always be positive and encouraging. Music is meant to be fun so a lesson should aim leave you in good spirits – even if things didn’t quite go according to plan…
