Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Violin to beginner and intermediate students, beginning at age 3.
I am starting chamber music and group class courses for children and adult string players at Coexist in Stokes Croft. This course is designed to give students a regular experience of both following and leading within a music ensemble and a great way to explore new repertoire!
For more information, please contact me.
I also teach modern Greek from complete beginner to advanced levels.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I am on the MA course in Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music and taught at the Junior Royal Academy of Music before relocating to Bristol. I also studied baroque violin at Trinity College of Music. I have a diploma in modern violin from the Orpheum Conservatoire of Music. I have also passed the DipABRSM in Performance, and the Grade 6 ABRSM exam in Theory. I taught violin at the Symphonic Conservatoire and the New Horizons Conservatoire, during the academic year 2007-08, both based in Athens, before moving to London. I have also taught violin privately for the last 8 years.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching either privately or at a conservatoire for the last 8 years. When teaching very young children, I try to implement parts of the Suzuki method into my teaching, as it makes it easier for your children to learn violin.
How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per lesson, for up to two people. For more people, the price will increase £15 per person. If I am traveling to the student, the full cost of the class will be charged if cancelled less than 4 hours before the class starts. If the student is traveling to my house, a £10 cancellation fee applies if cancelled less than 2 hours before the class starts.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home, and also at students' homes within walking/short bus ride distance.
When are you available?
Please contact me for details. I will be available to teach as of the 1st of September. As I am a freelance musician, there will have to be some flexibility regarding the times of lessons, but I will make up any that are missed.
I am also available to teach in London on Wednesdays, either before 1pm, between 2:30-3:30 anywhere on the District line (Parsons Green-Edgeware Road) or Jubilee line (Baker Street-Finchley Road), or after 7:30pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any age, using a Suzuki-style approach for children age 3-6. It is possible to prepare students for the ABRSM Board or the Trinity/Guildhall exams.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and Trinity/Guildhall exams.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
No.
Where and with whom did you train?
I started my training at the McGill Conservatory of Music in Montreal, as a member of the Suzuki Method program. I then continued my studies in Athens, first with Yiannis Vatikiotis, and then with Vassilis Papas, with whom I got my violin diploma. I am currently a student of Walter Reiter, at the Royal Academy of Music. I have participated in masterclasses with Bernhard Hartog and Grigori Zhislin in Athens, with Isaac Malkin in New York, Jeanne Lamon in Toronto, and Walter Reiter at the Dartington International Summer School.
