- Personal Message
- Miriam has worked as a professional violist and teacher for over 10 years.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- My main subjects are viola and violin, which I can teach to an advanced level. I also teach music theory and would enjoy teaching recorder at a beginner - intermediate level and possibly in small groups.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- The majority of my qualifications were at the Royal College of Music. In addition to the qualifications above are also
ARCM (Distinction)
Post Graduate in Advanced Performance (Distinction) - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have a lifetime of performing experience and have played in venues such as the Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Cadagon Hall, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, St. Jame's Piccadilly, Barbican, Royal Festival Hall and many more inside and outside the UK.
I have worked as a free-lance violist and teacher for over 10 years, teaching both tiny (4 years old) students up to adults of varying abilities. I individualise the lessons to suit the pupil, but specifically focus on working on the technical side to ensure that if the pupil can produce a warm tone from the instrument then they will want to continue to learn! - How much do you charge?
- £30 per hour, but would consider a reduction for very small groups.
- Where do you teach?
- From home which is Rye, East Sussex
- When are you available?
- I am available on a free-lance basis which means there needs to be flexibility on both sides.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- All levels and ages
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- Any
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes - all clear!
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- N/A
- Where and with whom did you train?
- Royal College of Music
Grigory Zhislin and Simon Rowland-Jones - Tell me about some of your current students.
- One student is 11 years old. She had never played violin before, and I started her off from scratch. Recently, she auditioned for a place at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, and we are currently awaiting results. She won the Major Award at a very selective independent girl's school in London and this summer she is due to take her grade 7 Associated Board violin exam.
Another student is of a similar age and a more recent student. She seems to enjoy her violin lessons but is more academically minded and has piano as her first instrument.
I had a couple of adult students a while ago who became friends and we had viola duets which was fun! I enjoyed teaching them, even though it was clear that they didn't have the time to practise and were just having a go for their own entertainment. - Do you have a personal message for students?
- Anyone is welcome to have a go, and the more practise you put into it OUTSIDE THE LESSONS, the more you will get out of it, as with anything in life!
