Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
My method is based on the traditional Italian belcanto school, with knowledge of the physiology and experience of many years of career, in concerts and on stage.
It doesn't mean that everybody has to sing in Italian! It means that the traditional Italian school has the best technique; it teaches how to produce a beautiful sound because Italian is a language full of vowels, singing on the breath and how to project the voice also in big spaces without a microphone.
A lesson is strictly based on the needs of the students: it depends on the age, experience and the style they want to study.
A lesson includes: breathing exercises, posture, repertoire, pronunciation and interpretation.
Repertoire: all the classic chamber music, from early to contemporary music and operas of the most important composer. Pronunciation of the texts in all the major European languages.
I can teach jazz style and repertoire (standards) and improvisation, and music theater.

What kind of experience do you have?
I create Workshops, in Italy and in Britain, to work with my method. The most recent took place in April in Italy, and the group of students come to perfect their study with me regularly. One of them, Laura, has just won two awards in National Competitions.
I've always taught individually, to many singers with different needs.
I had collaborations with different types of choirs, where I've been an individual vocal coach:
"Ars Antiqua" Choir of Genoa ; "Collegium Vocale" of Pavia; "Coro Insieme" of Maccarese, Rome, with the collaboration of Fiumicino town council; music and vocal coach in workshop at "V.Colonna" Institute, Rome; "Vita Nostra" Choir of Seville, Spain 2007.
I collaborated during a term as a vocal coach at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice 2009.
I taught also to professionals who had problems with their voices, and to folk and pop singers, as basically the technique is the same.
How much do you charge?
My fee per lesson is £25, (always in excess of one hour). For youth the fee can be negotiated (for shorter lessons).
Block Booking: Please contact me for further information.
For workshops or groups, it will depend on circumstances.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home, but if teaching is required at the student's home, I am happy to travel.
The above fees apply to Cardiff or Swansea or equivalent distance.
When are you available?
From 10 am till late; we will discuss personally to fix the best hour.
I make special allowances on weekends, such as to prepare for a competition or exam.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
In general I don't put limits on age.
But for the operatic repertoire, I suggest to start at the age of 16 years old, because the vocal organ has to be completely formed.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare the students for different level of exams, if they need it, as such as ABRSM or Trinity College or Conservatoire, from beginning level to diploma.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have a CRB, which number you can read at the top page.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can supply you with technique advice and physiological explanations, since there would be no direct contact. However, it can never be a substitute for a real lesson. For example, through skype it is not possible to understand the real projection of the voice, because of the microphone, but it is possile to talk about technical aspects, or to work the aria or song on the interpretation.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
"Montgral" Academy, Lucca, directed by the conductor Gustav Kuhn.
Where and with whom did you train?
Over the years, I have had a lot of experience with teachers and famous singers and music teachers:
private lessons in piano with M.tro V.Rosetta, and M.tro de Spirito, of harmony and theory with M.tro Quaranta; my first teacher of singing, based on a strictly physiological method was M.tro Uberti, director of Pamparato courses and teacher at Parma Conservatory; my first opera teacher was Lia Araujo, (mezzo soprano soloist of Argentina theatre), and then Ann English Santucci, Margareth B.Genovesi, A.Carangelo (teacher at his own Academy in Wien).
I prepared opera repertoire with M.tro Rolando Nicolosi and M.tro V.Rosetta. Personal advices from Anita Cerquetti, Fiorenza Cossotto, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Pedro Lavirgen, Francisco Ortiz, among others.
I worked with conductors as D.Oren, D. Gatti, C.Thielemann, C.Rovaris, I.Karabcewski, K.Martin, C.Micheli, G.Kuhn and directors as D.Abbado, B.L.Tommasi, among others.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a group of students in my workshop in Italy and mainly private lessons in Wales. My workshop's group includes advanced opera students; we are working on the improvement of their technique and working on the best repertoire. Here I have a pop singer, Hal., who has a beautiful voice of soprano; Dar. has a strong and beautiful voice of tenor. Ka. and Mo. are my little girls, 10 and 11 eleven years old, they really enjoy singing. Am. has a beautiful classical voice of soprano. Other students come to get advice when they need it, being already in the professional world of classical music.
Do you have a personal message for students?
To sing is the most beautiful and immediate expression of our soul. We all have a voice, and everybody can sing; but we can learn how to use our voice as an instrument, an instrument that we never can leave, that always lives with us. The opera technique is the most developed technique that allows us to produce the most powerful voice with the least effort, without a microphone; our microphone is our resonators, and we can learn how to feel them and manage them, and to find the joy to have such a vibrant feeling.
