Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
My method is based on the traditional Italian belcanto school, with knowledge of the physiology and experience of many years of career, in concerts and stage.
It doesn't mean that everybody has to sing in italian! It means that the traditional italian school has the best technique; it teaches how to produce a beautiful sound because italian is a language full of vowels, singing on the breath and how to project the voice also in big spaces without a microphone. (for a thorough examination of this subject, I will publish a new article very soon).
A lesson is strictly based on the needs of the students: it depends on the age, experience and the style they want to study.
A lesson for a classical-operatic style includes: breathing exercises, posture, repertoire, pronunciation and interpretation.
Repertoire: all the classic chamber music, from early to contemporary music and operas of the most important composer. Pronunciation of the texts in all the major european languages.
I can teach jazz style and repertoire (standards) and improvisation, and music theater.

What kind of experience do you have?
Workshops.
I've always taught individually, to many singers with different needs.
I had collaborations with different types of choirs, where I've been an individual vocal coach:
"Ars Antiqua" Choir of Genoa ; "Collegium Vocale" of Pavia; "Coro Insieme" of Maccarese, Rome, with the collaboration of Fiumicino town council; music and vocal coach in workshop at "V.Colonna" Institute, Rome; "Vita Nostra" Choir of Seville, Spain 2007.
I collaborated during a term as vocal coach at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice 2009.
I taught also to professionals who had problems with their voices, and to folk and pop singers, as basically the technique is the same.

How much do you charge?
My fee per lesson is 25 pounds, and my lessons are always longer than 1 hour.
Travelling to Cardiff would cost no extra. However, if it's far, I will work out a travel fee with the student. For masterclasses or groups, it will depend on circumstances.

Where do you teach?
I teach at home, but if teaching is required at the student's home, I am happy to travel.

When are you available?
During all day, we will discuss personally to fix the best hour. I make special allowances on weekends, such as to prepare for a competition or exam.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
In general I don't put limits of age.
But for the operatic repertoire, I suggest to start at the age of 16 years old, because the vocal organ has to be completely formed.

Do you have a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes

Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can supply you with technique advice and physiological explanations, since there would be no direct contact. However, it can never be a substitute for a real lesson.

Do you belong to any professional organisations?
"Montgral" Academy, Lucca, directed by the conductor Gustav Kuhn.

Where and with whom did you train?
Over the years, I have had a lot of experience with teachers and famous singers and music teachers:
private lessons in piano with M.tro V.Rosetta, and M.tro de Spirito, of harmony and theory with M.tro Quaranta; my first teacher of singing, based on a strictly physiological method was M.tro Uberti, director of Pamparato courses and teacher at Parma Conservatory; perfectioning opera repertoire with Lia Araujo, (mezzo soprano soloist of Argentina theatre), Ann English Santucci, Margareth B.Genovesi, A.Carangelo (teacher at his own Academy in Wien), Repertoire with M.tro Rolando Nicolosi and V.Rosetta. Personal advices from Anita Cerquetti, Fiorenza Cossotto, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Pedro Lavirgen, Francisco Ortiz, among others.
I worked with conductors as D.Oren, D. Gatti, C.Thielemann, C.Rovaris, I.Karabcewski, K.Martin, C.Micheli, G.Kuhn and directors as D.Abbado, B.L.Tommasi, among others.

Tell me about some of your current students.
I have some advanced students, we are working on the improvement of their technique and working on the right repertoire. I have a pop singer and a folk singer, who wants to preserve their voices.

Do you have a personal message for students?
To sing is the most beautiful and immediate expression of our soul. We all have a voice, and everybody can sing; but we can learn how to use our voice as an instrument, an instrument that we never can leave, that always lives with us. The opera technique is the most developed technique that allows us to produce the most powerful voice with the least effort, without a microphone; our microphone is our resonators, and we can learn how to feel them and manage them, and to find the joy to have such a vibrant feeling.
