Stoke-on-Trent is a curious conurbation. Made up of no fewer than six formerly independent towns, it is now a centre for the service industry, as well as a major hub of distribution for major UK companies such as Sainsbury's and Well. And let's not forget the city's history as Britain's pottery factory; that's why Stoke-on-Trenters - Stokies - affectionately refer to themselves as Potters.
And there's the fact that this city was deemed best in the UK for business - it's the home of BET365 and many others, and football features prominently.
What does all of that have to do with Germany?
According to the last census, Stoke-on-Trent's German-born population ranked third-highest, behind native English and Polish-born populations. Granted, the city's German population isn't large but it is significant, in that they contribute to the rise of jobs requiring German language skills.
Currently, the jobs website Indeed lists 16 such jobs while CareerJet boasts 25. And these aren't just sales or customer service jobs, either; you might work as a social media executive or an IT support engineer.
Nobody would say that the Germans are taking over the town but it's certain that the European Union's largest economy is presenting Potters with unique professional opportunities. And who knows how far such work could take you?
That's why it's a great idea to learn German in Stoke-on-Trent.
If you rely strictly on Reed to find German language courses in Stoke-on-Trent, you're bound to be disappointed; they have none to offer - at least, not in-person courses. Still, you don't need to dig too deeply to find quality German language courses.
If you're preparing for your German A-Level with the anticipation of earning a spot in a German-language degree programme at a local university, you'll be relieved to know that over 30 universities in and around the city offer undergraduate and graduate degrees programmes in German language studies.
On the other end of the spectrum, should you be on your way to Germany in a few months, for holiday or to live and work there, you'll likely want at least Conversational German courses, if not Business German courses. You'd be well served with a Language Trainer's German class.
This language learning concern offers one-on-one German lessons - either conversational or business-oriented. They also boast a small group learning programme should you and your partner plan to visit or relocate to Germany together. And, if you're concerned about taking lessons face to face - maybe you have no time for the extra step in your commute, you may choose to take German language lessons online.
All of this is great for the adult or near-adult German language student but where can GCSE German candidates find the help they need?
We did say that Stoke-on-Trent boasts a decent population of native German speakers, didn't we?
Many such Stokies are keen to help their Potter neighbours learn to speak their native tongue; perhaps that's why 29 such passionate instructors became German language Superprofs
For instance, Lena, a German national who has lived for years in the UK, has parlayed her native-level speaking skills into a well-formed Conversational German curriculum. If you studied German in the past and would like to get more comfortable using your German language abilities - shake the rust off, as it were, you could engage with Lena for speaking and listening practice.
And then, there's Sarah, who has long experience teaching German learners of all ages - from primary school students and absolute beginners to adults and those with an advanced level of German knowledge.
With Sarah and others like her, we see the critical difference in studying German with a Superprof tutor.
Most language learning companies focus on adult learners; they have nothing to offer school students, younger children or people who have already attained a certain level of German language ability. Indeed, they mostly focus on the lower levels of grammar and vocabulary; verb conjugation and language mechanics.
Few are willing to take on the very young and the most advanced with equal verve. That's why you can count on Superprof German language tutors to help you master the German language, whatever your reasons for studying it.
