Whether you want to do science at University or just need the GCSE because you're supposed to have it, science is important to you. I believe the best way you can prepare for an exam is to have fun learning about a subject. I try make science fun and I think that having the tools to unlock the secrets of the universe is important in anyone's life. If you just take a look around you now there will be dozens of things that you don't understand. How does this computer that you're using work? What is the nature of the light coming from the screen? Why does the computer get hot? why is the sky outside my window blue? Why is that tree green? Every one of these questions and virtually any question you care to ask about the world around you, I can give you the tools to answer.
- Classes
Durring term time we offer face to face sesions designed around the students needs. We assess all term time students and build a programme around them. The face to face sessions offer a mixture of supported learning and examination preparation. We insist that students complete an hour per week of homework.
During holidays we run intensive classes with up to three students at a time. These are based on very specific exam preparation following a past paper and delving into the learning behind each question.
Our local relationships allow us to teach GCSE science to mature students and allow them to sit there exams and controlled assessments at a local school.
- Ages and Levels Covered
All ages are covered.
We support KS2 and KS3 Maths and science helping children to get the levels they are capable of.
We support GCSE maths, core science, additional science, triple science and applied science.
We support A level maths, physics, chemistry and biology.
We have experience of WJEC, OCR and AQA but will support students sitting any of the exam boards.

James
I have a degree in chemistry and I am a passionate scientist. After nearly 2 decades of working in the pharmaceutical and healthcare businesses in London my family and I decided to return to North Wales. Since completing my teacher training I have made a commitment to improving the academic achievements of individual children by providing one-to-one tuition, study groups and holiday revision classes. I feel strongly that the education provided by the state in Wales is 1st class, however individual children need individual support that one cannot give as a teacher teaching up to 30 pupils at a time.
I have worked, trained and volunteered at a number of schools in North Wales, including Eirias High, Ysgol Clywedog, Ysgol Emrys ap Ewan, Ysgol Emanuel and Gogarth. I am familiar with the teaching, syllabi and examinations used at schools in the area, as well as having a detailed working knowledge of the National Curriculum for Science in Wales. I am a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and I am in the process of gaining membership of the College of Teachers and the Association of Part-Time Tutors. I have up-to-date CRB checks and hold public liability insurance. I believe very strongly in providing a safe learning environment, to this end with one-to-one sessions parents are welcome to stay and all sessions will be recorded on audiotape. I am a qualified 1st aider and have attended specific courses provided by the North Wales Ambulance Service to administer first aid to children and young adults.
Andy
I moved to North Wales in 1993 to attend the University of Wales, Bangor and graduated in 1996 with First Class Joint Honours in Biochemistry and Zoology and also won prizes as the top biochemistry student in the second and third years. I immediately began studying for a PhD in evolutionary ecology which allowed me to carry out extended periods of fieldwork in the Caribbean. After working at the university for nine years, I was faced with prospect of leaving North Wales when funding for further research was no longer available, but chose to stay where my family were happy.
All sciences, including mathematics, have always fascinated me and during my time studying and working at the university I found teaching and sharing the knowledge I had gained with others to be highly rewarding. I taught a number of courses in statistics, data handling, physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as giving a number of presentations at international conferences and publishing numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Since leaving academic research, I have continued my interest in science and education, not least through my two daughters, the eldest of which is now following in my footsteps by studying at Bangor University. I completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, again at Bangor University, in 2011 during which I taught at Emrys Ap Iwan in Abergele and at Holyhead High School and have been marking GCSE examination papers for over 5 years. This has given me an understanding of the course material taught through local schools and an insight into the common misunderstandings held by some pupils and how some fail to achieve their full potential in the examinations due to relatively small issues. Tutoring has given me the opportunity to share my scientific knowledge and hopefully contribute to the next generation of scientists.
Roz Lofts
Rozalind qualified as a science teacher in 1992 and began working at Ysgol John Bright September that year. The next 20 years she taught A level biology, G.C.S.E. science and the beginning of GNVQ which later became NVQ and also BTech. Gaining experience in the different types of qualifications available Rozalind is able to teach in a variety of learning styles to gain the best possible grade from each of her students. Rozalind is also an A level examiner and has the insight needed to pass the exams at the highest grade.
