- Classes
Kumon provide individualised Maths and English programmes. Attendance at class is on a "drop-in" basis during class times as each child works on their own individual programme. Children take approximately 20-30 minutes per subject and attend class once or twice a week. The Kumon programmes work in a logical sequential way to develop mathematics and English skills and competence. All children are able to work at the most suitable pace for themselves meaning it is suitable for children requiring support through to those requiring additional challenge to school work. Many of our children study above school level as the programme encourages development of potential.
- Ages and Levels Covered
Children can start Kumon at 4 years of age and continue up to 'A' level standard. The programmes can also be studied be adults wishing to improve maths and English skills. Students work under close supervision to settle into their new routine and receive guidance to help establish their new study skills. The time spent in class is invaluable in understanding a child's needs and how best to support and develop them. This observation time ensures work set can be individualised by the Instructor to support their development and maximise their potential. Once the class work has been completed, students take part in supplementary activities such as the "numberboard challenge" (a magnetic board game designed to develop hand eye co-ordination and number sequencing skills), reading or testing mental maths skills such as "times tables" practice.
Once marked, any errors are corrected by the student assuring a positive outcome with all work completed as correct. This encourages greater confidence and boosts self-esteem as well as addressing any misunderstandings or careless errors to ensure the child is in the best position to tackle their homework. Students receive feedback during class for personal achievements and good attitude but are also able to take responsibility for their own learning by being able to discuss their own development and goals where appropriate.
Achievement Tests are taken on completion of each level, with a certificate awarded plus a report for parents on the results achieved and the plan and content of the next level. This information is also discussed with the student to encourage motivation and progression throughout the programme. Award ceremonies take place each year to recognise the progress of students. Certificates are awarded to students working at a higher level than their peers and those who have made significant progress in their study skills. These award ceremonies are just one of a number of ways that we recognise student achievement and encourage motivation throughout the programme and to completion.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Eve aged 10: I have found Kumon to be extremely beneficial to my daughter's learning. It has given Eve extra confidence and speed when undertaking mathematical calculations at school. It is an adaptable and complementary addition to techniques taught at school. I've seen her confidence grow enormously and the techniques she has learned through Kumon, have helped her shine in her maths tasks and challenges at school. I've found Paul to be an excellent instructor with a quiet and calm manner.
Jessica aged 7 and Rebecca aged 6: My daughters, have been studying Kumon Maths and English programmes for 18 months and in that time, massive progress has been made. My elder daughter had no confidence in her maths capabilities and was struggling greatly at school. Studying Kumon maths has enabled her to make positive and steady progress, building her confidence which has now changed her perception of her maths ability. Kumon is a very positive and concrete form of teaching and I highly recommend it!
India, aged 10: My daughter began Kumon maths over 3 years ago and in that time she has shown significant improvement in her speed accuracy and understanding of the subject. She now works through her school work with ease and confidence and has sped ahead of her age group in ability. The Kumon philosophy of a little work each day has been very effective for India and yielded a result way beyond her expectations – and ours! We have found Paul Hopkins to be a very encouraging and supportive instructor.
