Exeter is renowned for its outstanding educational establishments, many specialising in French courses. For example, the University of Exeter shines with its comprehensive French programs that focus on both the language intricacies and the vibrant French culture and history. Beyond the university, Exeter has tons of language schools catering to French enthusiasts of all ages. There's no shortage of online resources for those more inclined towards a flexible schedule or a more digital approach. For example, platforms such as Udemy, Coursera, and Future Learn bring you to the classroom with extensive French lessons. Lastly, if you're searching for a one-on-one learning experience, websites like TutorHunt, Tutorful, and Preply can match you with skilled French-speaking tutors.
First and foremost, hiring a private tutor allows you to benefit from a more tailored learning experience than traditional classroom lessons! Everyone learns differently, and a one-on-one setting ensures that your private lessons are curated to your strengths and weaknesses in the French language. In addition to this, your French tutor will provide you with their undivided attention, which can dramatically accelerate your learning curve in the long run. Moreover, private tutors are typically more budget-friendly than traditional schooling options. With a bit of searching, you can find a tutor on Superprof who matches your budget and is knowledgeable enough to help you reach the next level in your language journey. Plus, their scheduling flexibility ensures that you get the most bang for your buck. Lastly, with a tutor, you get immediate feedback, making correcting mistakes and improving your pronunciation easier.
If you want to pass your French Exams, hiring a private tutor could be your best bet. Firstly, they could help you prepare by setting up mock exams that mimic the real deal. By practising under mock exam conditions, you'll naturally become familiar with the format of your exams and reduce your anxiety on the actual day. Additionally, remembering tricky phrases and vocabulary can sometimes be challenging. However, many private tutors make use of memory aids, such as flashcards, to make this process simpler. In addition to this, your tutor may also teach you mnemonic techniques - a valuable tool in turning abstract French phrases into relatable stories or images. Lastly, setting up regular study time is crucial if you're serious about taking your French exams. Thankfully, your tutor can help you maintain this discipline and ensure you progressively build upon what you learn instead of cramming in everything at the last moment.
How long does it take to master the French language? To answer that question, it is essential to remember that 'mastery' can mean different things to different people. For many French learners, it's about having a casual conversation, and for others, reading, writing and understanding complex literature. When it comes to younger individuals, especially children, their brains are wired like sponges. Due to this, they can pick up languages faster, sometimes in as little as a year, with daily exposure.
Similarly, teenagers and young adults might take slightly longer - typically anywhere from 18 months to 3 years. Unfortunately, for older adults, the learning curve can be steeper. However, on average, with regular lessons and practice, it usually takes 3 to 5 years to achieve perfect fluency in French. Half the battle of learning a new language comes down to motivation. Therefore, you must ask for help from your tutor or fellow French enthusiasts if you fall behind!

Brilliant really. My son is really enjoying his lessons and that's from a lad who has not gone for French prior to this. Ellie takes time to understand his gaps and even ove Skype (thanks Covid) has worked to help push him along.
