Having taught all four A level Chemistry exams available, i.e. Edexcel, AQA, OCR and OCRSalters I can offer some advice as to the pros and cons associated with them.

Firstly the most contentious: OCRSalters. This is an ambitious exam which can be rewarding for very able students because of the interesting content and adventerous coursework investigation undertaken in the A2 part of the course.  However, for any student for whom English is not their first language I would not recommend this exam.

Edexcel has had multiple choice questions as part of their exam for many years whilst AQA has only included multiple choice questions for the new syllabus.  As far as I know there is no multiple choice element for the OCR course.

When I was teaching only A level Chemistry at a F.E. college from 1985 -1999 our students were entered for the AEB exam because there was a multiple choice paper and it was our opinion that students of all abilities could be schooled to score highly in that paper.

So, in conclusion, from my experience I would avoid OCRSalters, even though I have taught vey able students who gained A* and A grades, and choose either AQA or Edexcel A level Chemistry.
